One issue we haven't really discussed is how Lou and the Traynors are hounded by the media in the days surrounding Will's visit to Dignitas. Since ME BEFORE YOU was first written, incidences of public shaming have only increased. Why do you think the media and public feel they have the right to weigh in on what seems like a private decision? And do you believe that there are some instances in which public shaming is a legitimate course of action?

To shame or out them in the press is despicable and it should be stopped.

I absolutely agree on the issue of Dignitas and Patrick's decision to sell Will's story to the press shows is true colors.

This week, I am also thinking about the pharmaceutical mogul who bought a company and increased the price of one of the company's medications by several thousand percent. He was publicly shamed and quickly reduced the price--though not to its original level. It made me think about the power--good and bad--that public opinion can wield.

Readsandeats | 35 comments Yes, public opinion can help sway things but there are times when it is none of the publics business what another person decides to do.
Maybe this is where technology and social media are a bad thing as there is to easy a way to access information and make a quick buck for yourself.
