Hello and welcome! I love the concept of "Introduce yourself," but hate the blinding spotlight that leaves your mind blank. So! Instead... I have a simply Answer these questions to get you introduced to the group.

Hi! Call me...
I love reading...
My favorite book is...
When I'm not reading I am...
I also love...
I joined this group because...
One last thing I'd like to say...

Hi! Call me... Angela! Or The Mod. Please don't call me "Angi." I loathe that name.
I love reading... Classical Literature above all else. If it was written before 1950, I love it! I also love Harry Potter.
My favorite book is... the ones with words. I can't live without Poe... and I adore Shakespeare. Okay, I love love love French Lit. Hugo and Dumas... but Jules Verne! OMG!! I love his Mysterious Island! And I adored HG Wells!
When I'm not reading I am... writing my fantasy series. I also garden and mother three little people. I have mastered the art of "Baking The Cookie." I am ready to start posting my recipes online (I have a website where I live nicely between the numbers 0 and 1. It's quite cozy).
I also love... CATS! and coffee... Music, blogging, and books!
I joined this group because... Well... I made this group because I have an obsession with organizing things and realized there were no "Book Shelves" on Goodreads where I could just go in and browse quietly. Honestly, I'm annoyed with some of the layout, so I found a way to simplify it. My goal with the Bookshelf is to have an active reading group with events and conversation going on.
One last thing I'd like to say... is nothing really. I think I said it all.

message 3: by Timothy (last edited Sep 24, 2015 10:55AM) (new)

Timothy Bateson (timothybateson) | 23 comments Hi! Call me Tim, or Timothy (as much as I try to avoid using this last one, it is the name I write under).
I love reading fantasy, sci-fi, urban fantasy, and paranormal books, but somehow always find myself coming back to the same classics. I'm always looking for new authors to read.
My favorite book is anything in the Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett, because I love the mix of fantasy, and crazy humor. But I also love books like the Ender's Game books, because of the questions they raise.
When I'm not reading I am usually either working, looking up quotes for my weekly "Someone Else's Words" blog entries, reviewing work I've read, writing short stories, or preparing to start my first novel.
I also love role-playing games, and chatting with readers and writers from across the globe. The fact that so many different people can come together over stories amazes me. But more than anything it amazes me that we can all read the same story, and come away with completely different feelings and thoughts. That's what makes stories an art-form.
I joined this group because I am a reader and writer, who is always looking for something new. That might be a new viewpoint on a book I thought I knew well and had fully explored; a new book to try; a new author that people may have overlooked; or even a new event to join to bring readers and writers together.
One last thing I'd like to say ...
"Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long you miss them" - William Arthur Ward.

message 4: by A.F. (last edited Sep 24, 2015 11:27AM) (new)

A.F. (scribe77) Hi! Call me... Anita (even though it says A. F. on my books)
I love reading... fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries, biographies, graphic novels, historical fiction, historical non-fiction, etc., etc... my tastes are fairly eclectic.
My favorite book is... don't make me choose, but on the top of the list is Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay, Possession by A. S. Byatt and The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.
When I'm not reading I am... writing, goofing off from writing, or doing that boring life stuff.
I also love... history, and all things geeky. Yes, I am a fantasy and sci-fi fanatic.
I joined this group because... it looked interesting, and I was probably invited. But my memory isn't what it used to be, so...
One last thing I'd like to say... I'm not as crazy as I appear.

message 5: by Lenita (last edited Sep 24, 2015 10:55PM) (new)

Lenita Sheridan | 7 comments Hi! Call me... Lenita
I love reading... fantasy with humor in it, inspirational fantasy, sci-fi especially time travel, surrealistic stories, and non-fiction especially spiritual and dog stories.
My favorite book is... The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, though I really like the whole series of The Chronicles of Narnia books best.
When I'm not reading I am... writing, playing with my dog, doing crafts, singing, teaching, or taking care of my elderly mom.
I also love ethnic food from fettuccine Alfredo to Phad Thai, the smell of the sea air on the island I live, and walking my dog. Needless to say, I love dogs, especially mine.
I joined this group because... I like to read and write.
One last thing I'd like to say... I'm a Christian.

message 6: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) Hi, Call me Anna
I love reading mystery, crime, romance... I could go on, I really like to read most things but not horror or erotica.
My favourite book is, hmm. I could be here for hours while I start to work it out.
When I'm not reading I am writing, looking after the family, church activities, writing, and writing. Every spare minute is given to writing.
I also love everything to do with the sea: sailing, walking along the beach or the cliff tops.
I joined this group because I liked the concept of having genre shelves to browse.
One last thing: I usually take a look at people's profiles - Alaska, Lenita, so cold. Oh and I'm English.

message 7: by Julia (new)

Julia Bell (juliabellromanticfiction) | 10 comments Hi there,

Everyone calls me Julia, except my kids and grandkids. I'm a mum of two and grandma of five and I live in West Yorkshire, UK. Although at retirement age, I still work part time in a 'day job' so my life is quite busy.

I love travelling to foreign shores and get a buzz when I'm in a railway station, airport, ferry port and even a bus station. People on the move fascinate me.

I'm a reader of historical romances mainly, although I've been known to read, ghost and science fiction stories too. I've read some fantastic books over the years, but I still love Charlotte Bronte's Gothic romance, Jane Eyre. It must be because of the ordinariness of the heroine and the flawed hero.

It's great to be a member of The Book Shelf and I joined because it was recommended to me. I'm intrigued to know how it all works, but beware, I'm a bit of numpty technologically speaking. I'm apt to press the wrong buttons, so I apologise in advance for any errors I make/stuff I inadvertently delete.

And my one last thing is that every book I buy or acquire as a gift goes on my TBR shelf. And after reading it I always give a starred-review on both Goodreads and Amazon. Honest reviews, I hope, but also encouraging and helpful.

Helen Laycock (helenlaycock) | 35 comments Hi! Call me Helen.

I love reading clever crime stories, heart-stopping thrillers, disturbing psychological fiction, heart-wrenching drama, true-life accounts, rib-tickling comedy... in fact, anything that's not sci-fi/dystopian/fantasy (sorry, sci-fi/dystopian/fantasy fans) - as long as it's well-written, of course.

My favorite book is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It's a perfect example of superb writing.

When I'm not reading, I am writing fiction - children's books, short stories, flash fiction and poetry. I have written about twelve books and I have had work featured in several anthologies.

I also love chocolate, chimps and dolphins.

I joined this group because it is very neat and tidy, like me. I thrive on organisation.

One last thing I'd like to say is that I have a bad memory, so please forgive me if I don't visit as often as I should. Oh, and thanks for having me.

message 9: by Amber (last edited Oct 22, 2015 09:48AM) (new)

Amber Martingale I've been reading since I was 4 years old. When I was in 4th grade my level of vocabulary comprehension damn near got me bused to Santa Rosa Jr. College for my English classes. This would have been a 160 mile round trip five days a week... on a fricking school bus too...where I would have been literally the only student on it under age 18.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... is a list of the books I am currently reading. As you can see, my tastes run the gamut from steampunk to urban fantasy and from steampunk to cooking.

You can also learn more about me just by listening to my YouTube playlists, beggining on my current video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcWKZ... (RAINBOW IN THE DARK-DIO), #159 of 183 on the second of my five playlists. Two playlists are specialty lists. One is dedicated to Christmas and the other is dedicated to Halloween.

Graham Garrity (grahamgarrity) | 3 comments I was the kid at school who never paid attention. In English my grades were always D or E and I once received a report from a Geography teacher that said, 'This lad does well to find his way home.'

I left school with few qualifications and began work in a local factory as a maintenance engineer. Ten years later I applied to join the police. It was one of my better decisions. I spent several years as a detective and worked on numerous burglary, robbery and murder investigations. I retired in 2011.

I began writing approximately 20 years ago. As soon as I can get the full stop key fixed on my computer I'll probably call it a day.
