I just wanted to let you know how happy I am to have found this group. I've joined other groups on goodreads and started to feel lost in them. I like that this one is smaller and more personal. Its not so overwhelming and makes it easier to participate without feeling intimidated.

Up with! I probably won't be able to keep up with all the challenges and such but I'm still happy to be here.
The challenges are just for fun. I think once we reach a certain amount of members I will probably close the group and make it invite or something. That way we can stay small and personal.
Is anyone else not liking the new format of the app for when you click on a book? Before, all the book info used to be on one page including the publishing date, number of pages etc. Now you have to click to get to the book details and editions. It's good that you can change editions from the app but I hate that you can't see the other stuff. It's so much more work when you're checking out books.
CM I just realized I never added my fav genres. Right now I'm into dystopia, fantasy and I'm loving fairy tale retellings. However I'm pretty much open to anything if it has a blurb that interests me.

I've been meaning to ask are the November book nominations for the book of the month or the pool?
November Book Nominations are for the poll which will start Saturday. The October book pool is where we can each put in three books and everyone tries to read as many as they can.
Are we supposed to start adding to the November book pool thread or wait for another thread? Sorry I'm a little slow with the uptake sometimes. Trying to do too many things at once!
You can add them now. I only just got around to it today. NaNo WriMo has had most of my attention so far this month.
So, you know how we do the book of the month noms and in there are stand alone books and series books? I was wondering if you would consider maybe changing it to be only stand alone books and add an additional topic for Series of the Month and we could chose a series book to read. We would obviously start with the first books of the series for the first few then we could move forward in series we've startedin the group depending on noms and votes. Just a thought because now if people suggest books that aren't the first in a series and they're chosen other people haven't read the ones before.
I have thought about that. Right now I know not everyone is going to want to read a book that we have picked out or they do not own the book or they just do not wish to read it. So we are all going to have to try and be kind when it comes to the book choosing. I know I have several series started as it is. So picking something that isn't the first book is hard for me.
I understand. I just figured it would be easier and also still let people choose what they want to read without a series read being in the main BOTM noms. They could nom series reads separately. I get what you're saying though. I've also started a ton of series. Unless it's new Ive read the first. So I guess it would have to be up to the masses! Lol
I know that occasionally I may re-read a book that is what we have picked out. I just really have to love that book. Like if Dorothy Must Die ended up being a book choice for this month I probably would not have read it. I would have probably read the second book. It's all up to us on what we read. I also realized recently that I do not own many stand alones. It's kind of funny really that I noticed it.
I own so many books now that I only really buy one if I know I NEED it! I'm like the only person on earth who goes to the library. I put everything I want on hold and it's there for me. It's so convenient. I don't think I really started going to the library until I was out of college which is kind of ridiculous. That's because I bought so many books.
I have not forgotten to update anything. I have been pretty busy as has been the other mod. I will be getting every thing updated tomorrow while I put up the poll.
You do a great job! I don't think anyone will have a problem with it. We know you're a busy lady!
Random. But I really need to vent. I want to buy a book so bad. I'm so stressed out with saving up for the first month's rent and deposit for this new house that I got. And then my friend (the one moving in with us) got into a huge spat with the people she was living with and now her and her 3 cats are living with me and my fiancee. I have a cat and a dog of my own and my poor cat has stopped eating and drinking water because she's so scared my friend's male cat. You see, my cat was a stray and she was the only female among with 10 tom cats. And they were all mounting her and they left her bloody with fighting and forcing her. She was pregnant by the time I took her in. When I took her to my vet, he told me she couldn't be more than 6 months. So now that my friend is her with her male cat, my cat is acting out by just refusing to keep her health up. I'm so frustrated right now. And now I'm done venting.
Awww Leela that sucks poor cat. Can you separate her? Or make them stay in one area until you get into the new house? A slow introduction is best if they're going to have to live together. It's too bad that you got kind of forced into this situation before everyone was ready. Since its your cats house I'd recommend keeping the other cats in one room or a closed off area until the move. Then when you move you can slowly introduce them by feeding them each on either side of the same door and things like that so they get used to each other's smell and associate good things with each other. If you need to talk or vent about it I'm here for you. I'm a total animal nut and I've worked at a vet for 15 yrs and I do other animal related stuff too. I totally understand. Good luck!
Thank you, Megan! I used to work at a vet for four years myself but my current place is really tiny. We live in a really small one bedroom apartment. It's so crowded. 5 animals and 4 people (my sister in law lives with us too) everything just got so hectic. I begged my friend to put her male cat in my dog's kennel during the night (of course my dog wouldn't be in it) to see if it would help my cat out. She likes the other two cats but I think it's because one cat is female and the other is a kitten. She just freaks out with the male cat. I was trying to separate the cats at first but my friend's cats just can't stay out of the room and everyone forgets to close my bedroom and when I get home in the morning (I'm a nighttime CNA) my cat has cornered herself against the wall and the male cat just sits in front of her. He's not trying to attack her. He just wants to look at her and play. But she can't seem to relax with him and no one seems to listen to me about keeping them out of the bedroom.
Megan wrote: "Ugh that's the worst. Why can't everyone just follow simple rules? It's so easy!"
I literally want to scream that every night out of frustration. Just now my friend got super offended because I scruffed her cat and took him to her. He was in my bedroom and my cat was freaking out. I think I'm the one who should be offended by this. I love my friend. She's awesome. But I feel like she never is very considerate when it comes to her pets and mine.

I would calmly explain to her one more time to keep her cat from yours. I have had a similar conversation with my mother about her cat. My cat is the older of the two cats. My baby is 14 and he is like 7 and he thinks that he needs to tip the alpha cat scale in his favor.

You're poor baby. Yeah, I've had numerous talks with my friend. But then she does this thing where she victimizes herself and starts crying like we are attacking her. I'm looking up ideas about how to make these cats get along but I'm not feeling very optimistic.

It's really hard when you're in such a small space and the people you're trying to work with won't work with you. If your friend was willing to help and do the things that would make intros and acclimation easier it wouldn't be so bad but because she's not really aware or doesn't really think it's her problem it won't really get better. The fact that no one can remember to just lock even your cat in the room which even gives her more freedom with her animals than she should be entitled to at this point shows that she's inconsiderate or plain oblivious to what's happening or she really doesn't care about your feelings or the welfare of your cat. Right now from what it sounds like you are doing her a favor by letting her stay with you until you guys move into the actual house which will be bigger. She should be considerate and go out of her way to make things easier on you at least until then. The when you get their you should make sure there is a place where you can securely lock your cat up until she is feeling fully confident and secure in her new surroundings and with the other animals. I can msg you some tips that might help. For now you may want to even crate her in a large dog crate in your room when you aren't there with a litterbox food and water so the door can't be mistakenly opened.
I will gladly take any advice you give, Meghan. I sat down with my friend and forced her to research with me on what we can do. She's going to crate her cat during the night and when I'm home I'll be comforting my cat in my room. Im hoping this gets better. I know I'm doing my friend a favor and it's hard for me at this point to be calm while talking with her. But I shall be calm. Thank you all for letting me vent!!! <3

Oh I love The Selection series. I want to re-read them before the last book comes out. I loved the Happily Ever After book. I loved reading the stories in it. Especially the favorite. I love Henry the 8th anything. I have a ton of books by Philippa Gregory that she has set during The Tudors. I loved the Other Boleyn Girl that she wrote that they did a movie based off of it. I have a few Colleen Hoover but have yet to read any of them yet.

You are the first person I have met who even knows Philippa Gregory and read a book by her. lol The Other Boleyn Girl was the first one that I also read by her. I loved it. I have also read the Boleyn Inhertience. I have seen a lot of people dislike her books because they think they are historically accurate. I got so frustrated once and said if they were historically accurate they would not be in the fiction section they would be in the non-fiction section. Ugh, I got so frustrated because it's historical fiction not non-fiction like people think. Everyone speculates what really happened between Anne and Henry and the rumors and tales that were told on the day that Anne was beheaded no one knows what is true. Her own daughter didn't understand what really happened only what people told her. And I love how Philippa writes the stories. It is almost like you are there because you can picture it. I love Philippa. I even have the books that she wrote for a historical fiction in YA. I really did like The Selection. I know a lot of people got annoyed by America but what 16 year old girl who has had her heart broken whouldn't act like that? I mean I always try to look at it from the character's view even in reality. We never know one day this could be our lives. I own Confess by Colleen and one other but I cannot remember the name of it at the moment.

Northern Belle I love the adult coloring books. I'm also really into Zentangle. It's super relaxing.
I don't even know where to start with my list. I've got very little books because I have so many already so it's always a nice surprise to get anything on my to read list. Also I'm always getting things from the library so I don't fill up to many more rooms with books. I'm hoping to get a new digital camera and some crafting stuff.

I so agree about philippa gregory, i love the way she describes everything and you are right noone really knows what went on between anne and henry. I really liked the Boleyn Inheritance and I have read the White Queen which I loved and I loved the Tv show they had for it on HBO.
And I feel the same way about the Selection. I feel like everyone is so hard on America but she is only 16 and I might have to do a re-read too. if you want to do that together let me know!

I heard Zentangle is relaxing! I am addicted to adult coloring lol I have always loved to color. And even though I have a lot of books I keep asking for them lol. I have an addiction lol But I do use my Library a lot because there are so many books I don't know if I would love it. And I love going to the library!

I had thought about adding it to my pile this month and at least read the first one this month. I would love to do a re read with you on it.

Its cool because its all repeating patterns so it looks super complicated but its easy to do and the repetition makes it relaxing. If you're looking for a good book you should gets one from the library. I like it better than some of the others because it tells you how to do the patterns step by step. It seems overwhelming at first but once you start its relaxing i swear!

Barbara, I know people say it'll get better with time. I'm not going to lie it's still going to hurt when it comes to the anniversary but it'll hurt worse. You'll need a few years before Christmas seems like Christmas again. I loved my great grandmother who passed away after my senior year of high school ('05) and it seemed like nothing would be the same again. My first Christmas without her was two months later. I didn't stay home. I went with my at the time boyfriend to his family's Christmas in Louisiana. It was kind of easier to run away from it. I regretted that decision the second year because then I had to deal with it finally, but as each year has gone on it hurts a little less. I won't promise it gets better with time. I will promise that it will hurt a little less each year. It's been ten years since my great-grandmother passed away that October of 2005. It still hurts but it hurts a little less than it did.

Barbara I am so sorry about your grandpa! Losing someone that means a lot to you is always hard and the first year is the hardest in my opinion. I lost both my parent in march, 4 years a part and my birthday is also in March and it took me a long time to ever enjoy my birthday but I came to realize that my parents wouldn't want me to be sad on a day that I always loved. I know it is hard but try to think of all the happy christmas's you had with you grandpa! and you can always come up here and talk to us and we can try to make you happy lol :)

You are so welcome Barbara. Feel free to message me if you ever need anything. I am usually lurking about.
