Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Hey, guys! No post was made last week, so what have you all read over the past two weeks? I didn't finish anything for week 39, but I completed Blackout: Remembering the Things I Drank to Forget (antonyms in the title) last week. As usual, I'm still a couple books behind, so hopefully I'll finish two this week.

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I'm working on my 43rd book a book that came out the year you were born, I'm reading Life, the Universe and Everything and it's really dragging for me. Hopefully in the next couple days I'll have a chance to just sit and slog through because it's not very long.

message 3: by Nicole (new)

Nicole I finished Wild by Cheryl Strayed. I tried to use it for the Book That Made You Cry prompt #37. But it didn't make me cry. I loved the book and I feel like I need to hike the Paific Creat Trail now.! Inspiring! Have you read it? Did you like it?What emotions did it evoke in you?

message 4: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I read it and really liked it (I first had it for a memoir but switched it to book with one word title because i had another memoir I wanted to read) but it didn't make me cry either. I found it inspiring and uplifting.

message 5: by Sara (new)

Sara I finished An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon's (reread), The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by ETA Hoffman, The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, and The Storied Life of A. J. Fickry. Sadly the oy one that fits a remaining prompt for me is the Nutcracker story. Gotta get cracking on my last few books, but I just have so many other books I want to read!

message 6: by Megan (new)

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments I read a few books, but none that fit in to the challenge.

However, I'm currently reading two books that both fit in to challenge categories so hopefully by next check in I'll have a couple prompts knocked off my list!

message 7: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments I haven't checked in since week 35 I think but I've read 4 books since then. Backstage by Aaron Lunsford, Mr. Memory and other stories of wonder by Paul Michael Peters, Room by Emma Donoghue and Authority by Jeff Vandermeer.

I'm currently reading Into The Wild. I've got 32 books down so far! Hope to reach 40 by the end of the year.

message 8: by Alycia (new)

Alycia | 65 comments I finished Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge for my book at the bottom of my TBR pile. I love fairy tale retellings, and this one was very enjoyable. I also read Speak by Louisa Hall, which I truly loved, but which sadly does not fulfill any remaining prompts! I'm 50 pages shy of completing Circling the Sun, which it seems I have been reading forever. Determined to finish that one today.
I have completed 40 prompts - 10 more to go!!

Christophe Bonnet New to that discussion group (but not to the challenge). Finished last week:

- a book a friend recommended: Gustave Flaubert, Salammbô

- a book based entirely on its cover : Graham Swift, Waterland

- A book with magic : Robert Coover, Rose

Got a few others going; when I'm done with these, I'll be only 5 books short of the challenge.

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 736 comments I reread Pride and Prejudice for a book over 100 years old, and then I got rather lazy for a couple weeks. I'm back on track though after reading The Complete Persepolis for a banned book. Now I'm reading The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America and I really like it. After this I'm going to go for something spooky for Halloween.

message 11: by Beth (new)

Beth My reading motivation really fell off this summer. Since I last checked-in in August I've read 5 books: Galileo's Middle Finger: Heretics, Activists, and the Search for Justice in Science (non-fiction), Embroideries (book by an author you love that you haven't read), Interpreter of Maladies (short stories), To Kill a Mockingbird (Pulitzer prize), and Go Set a Watchman (bad reviews). This puts my total for the year at 32.

With 20 books left to complete and only 12 weeks left in the year, I've made my peace with not finishing the challenge. I have already read more books this year that I normally would have and the challenge categories have lead me to books I might not have discovered otherwise. That said, I have switched out some of my choices for shorter books or graphic novels in an attempt to finish. We will see how it goes. I have two graphic novels and a short audiobook that I should finish this week.

Kaci | 67 comments Looks like I'll be signing myself for the group that won't finish but I'm still moving along. Most recently I've read The Princess Bride for my classic romance and loved it! So many genres in one book. This week I'm tackling my 500+ page and a book that scares me.
