Mervin Naik | 6 comments Hello, fellow bibliophiles. I remember reading a book as a child and I'm pretty certain the title was "Crow's nest" or something similar but looking for it now, nearly 30 years later, I fail to find it.
So, the story of the book is something like this. There's a kid (not sure if it's a boy or a girl) whose family moves into a highrise (tall building) of some sort that is some ways away from the bay, where grandpa used to watch the ships go by. Grandpa eventually comes around to moving to the "Crow's nest" and enjoys watching the boats/ships in the bay from his window.
It would be really helpful if I could get the name of the book and/or the author because I have exhausted all my options on the interwebs.

It was a novella of sorts. No pictures as far as I can remember.

Ayshe | 4720 comments There is a "Crow's nest" by Mabel Esther Allan -
http://www.worldcat.org/title/crows-n... but I can't find much information about it. "British Book News" (British Council, 1975) lists it as an example of a story where "...the old house comes to represent tradition and beauty threatened by building speculators and is saved by a group of children from destruction" Also: "a street of people is evicted to make room for high-rise flats"
Could it be your book?

Cover. They move to a new tower. Mabel Esther Allan's book was what I was going to suggest too.

Mervin Naik | 6 comments I'd forgotten about this. Life pretty much got in the way of chasing after this book too. Although, Mabel Esther Allan' s book wasn't it.

Mervin, do you remember the cover image?

Btw, Crow's Nest by Mabel Esther Allan is the first book in her "Pine Street" series.

Mervin Naik | 6 comments I was but a wee kid, I think, when I'd read the book. Unfortunately, so, I don't remember what the cover was like vividly. From what I do recollect, it was the scene of a street/road that led to what looked like a pier with ships/boats/yachts docked. I just remember the general plot. That's what made me want to buy the book. For the memory of it.
