ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Are you happy with the selection? What did you vote for ?

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments I was torn between Obsession in Death (In Death, #40) by J.D. Robb and Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike, #3) by Robert Galbraith ended up voting for Obsession.
in fantasy Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews and Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop I went for magic shifts but both were good.
In YA fantasy I'd only read Uprooted by Naomi Novik so that's why I voted for it. There is Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer but since it hasn't been published yet , I didn't vote for it. I don't know why it's even on the list.

There wasn't anything in the romance category that I wanted to vote for !! I might do a write-in for some of the categories.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) I thought the romance category was pitiful. Obviously, no one who reads the genre had anything to do with the selection and that's just sad.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments I did a write in vote for Everything I Left Unsaid (Everything I Left Unsaid, #1) by Molly O'Keefe .

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 458 comments I remain dumbfounded by the romance category, just like last year. I have no idea who or how those titles are picked. I'm not gonna say anything else about that.

I wrote in the Nalini Singh Psy Changeling book last year and was going to do it again. But now I'm wondering if I should just vote for the Sarah MacLean that's already on there so at least there's something decent (or that I've heard of) in the final.

It's always like that! I don't understand how they find their choices. The write-in works , I remember last year a couple of books showed in the second round that weren't in the first.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 744 comments I am listening to The Deal (Off-Campus, #1) by Elle Kennedy before I vote. I want to make the best decision in the romance category. I've read almost all those books so I needed to get this one in :D

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 744 comments How do they choose the books in each category?

message 14: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Here it is:

2015 Eligibility
Books published in the United States in English, including works in translation and other significant rereleases, between November 16, 2014, and November 15, 2015, are eligible for the 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards. Books published between November 16, 2015, and December 31, 2015, will be eligible for the 2016 awards.

We analyze statistics from the millions of books added, rated, and reviewed on Goodreads to nominate 15 books in each category. Opening round official nominees must have an average rating of 3.50 or higher. Write-in votes may be cast for eligible books with any average rating, and write-in votes will be weighted by the book's Goodreads statistics to determine the top five books to be added as official nominees in the Semifinal Round. A book may be nominated in no more than one genre category, but can also be nominated in the Goodreads Author category. Only one book in a series may be nominated per category. An author may receive multiple nominations within a single category if he or she has more than one eligible series or more than one eligible stand-alone book

I don't think those dates are fair to books published in November. For example, Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer has been nominated in the YA Fantasy category but will be released next week. How many people will have a chance to read it before voting closes for the first round?

message 17: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Great point! Feel the same as you.

This is the one I voted for. It's one of my favorite of the year!

I've only voted for the romance category though. I liked Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop but I don't know that I liked it so much as to consider it hte best of the year in that category.

I haven't read Magic Shifts yet so can't vote for that one.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments A book that I reallllly loved came up in the semi-finals because of the write-in votes. First Frost (Waverley Family, #2) by Sarah Addison Allen in fiction. There is still nothing I want to vote for in romance category.

I will try that book then. wait it's a book 2. How was book one?

message 21: by ShoSho , Moderator (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments As fantastic as book 2 ;) I listened to both and thought they were fantastic.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments I can't believe Burned (Fever, #7) by Karen Marie Moning made it to the semifinals! It's one of the worst books I've read this year.

Yep! I hear you , Gisela!
There are a couple of books there beside this one that I rated 1 or 2 stars and thought were pretty bad . They made it to the semifinals too!

Tiff's*Addictiontobooks (tiffsaddictiontobooks) | 11 comments I wasn't impressed with the Romance category at all. I did really like Him by Sarina Bowen so I voted for it but usually I find it hard to pick just one.

message 26: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 12 comments So it's all a numbers game? Most reviews/readers type thing? That explains why most (if not all) entries are traditionally published books.

Some other sites I've seen have an open nomination which they shout from the rafters. I like that approach as it opens it up for all.

But I'm biased, being a little indie author of romance. ;-)
"Look at me! Look at me!" I cry on a daily basis to no avail.
