Read and review books -any genre, any form- written by a Scottish author (by birth or immigration) or about or set in Scotland.

Challenge runs January 1 to December 31, 2016

Books you read may count for other challenges.

Pick a level you want to sign up for and leave a comment in the appropriate folder telling us you are signing on at that level. Keep us posted on what your reading and your thoughts about what your reading and how your doing at arriving at your goal.

Lillian (lilliancomber53) Has anyone picked their first book for 2016? I am starting with Winter Solstice. I am also re-reading The Hills is Lonely. An all time favorite of mine. Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas to you too Shannon's! I haven't picked a book yet to start next year but will probably be the third book by Alan Jones as I'll be getting it to proof soon!

Hello again :-)

I've not decided on a first book yet although I think I have a Kate Atkinson awaiting download to my Kindle. I love this Amazon household sharing thingy. Dave buys new books and I get to read them too :-)

Stephanie, those are pics of author James Oswald's cows that I took while I was there! They are so beautiful!

That is really fascinating. He seems like a really nice guy. Did you get the chance to meet him?

I did Shannon! He invited me to the farm and gave me a tour and let me feed a ewe and pet the lambs. Even took us through the house he's having built. He's a very kind, gracious man. I always watch his lamcam when the ewes are lambing and we struck up a correspondence through that. Check out the pics of that day on my blog... http://peggyannspost.blogspot.com/201...

I visited your blog and left a couple comments. Your trip looked fantastic. I bet you can't wait to go back! I love your blog too. Looking forward to reading more in 2016. :-)

GeraniumCat I've signed up again, for the Highlander. I'm going to make a list there -I said I wasn't going to, but I'm already having to keep track, I found, having just bought a book for the challenge.

Endeavour Press newsletter has just alerted me that In Loving Memory by Jenny Telfer Chaplin is free on Amazon for kindle at the moment:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Loving-Memory...

I haven't read it myself yet, though have just snapped up a copy, but the synopsis looks good.

"Glasgow, in the early nineteenth century.

Times are hard, and the the streets are crowded with desperate and starving people.

Amid poverty and strife, an insurrection known as the Radical War is about to start.

And two women's lives will be changed forever.

Maggie and Sheena are both fighting for the same man.

Maggie is left with child by her unwanted seducer, and is forced by her family into an arranged marriage with Fergus to cover up the scandal.

Fergus leaves his young sweetheart Sheena broken-hearted and in a similarly precarious position. Distraught she turns to Fergus’s brother Rab for comfort.

Against the backdrop of turmoil and revolt, Maggie and Sheena must fight to remain true to their hearts.

‘In Loving Memory’ is tale of a Scotland left behind but never forgotten, of women struggling to survive against the odds and of love overcoming all obstacles."

Well, I insist that 2016 is the year! Seriously, though, I enjoyed both The Crow Trap and White Nights. I hope to at least read the next book in both series this year.

There's so many authors I want to get to this year! For sure Anne Cleeves! Of course none of my libraries carry any of the authors I want to read! Just means more for my bursting shelves!

Julie | 37 comments A general question, Peggy? How do you get out of a group? I love this group, but I joined another with 5,000 members and it's not what I was looking for. But I can't find out how to 'unjoin'?

Go to the groups home page, Julie. Just under the group description you will see 'you are a member of this group / edit membership'. Click on edit and there towards the top of the page you can click leave group.
