Bill This folder is for members to post their reading group challenges for 2016. Other groups I belong to have both specific challenges, such as a 12 + 4 challenge where you would select 12 books and 2 - 4 alternates that you want to read over the course of the year. Once the year starts you can't amend the list. If you want to make such a challenge for yourself this year, I would just say that the books should fit the group, i.e mysteries, thrillers, spy, etc.

You might also like to have specific individual challenges; the alphabet challenge comes to mind, or maybe a Decade or Century of Mystery challenge. Whatever your little hearts desire. Anyway, if you feel like taking up some sort of challenge starting Jan 1 2016, please post it in this folder. Create your own individual thread. Good luck!

Thomas (tom471) | 2005 comments I challenged myself to read 80 books this year and have just finished #80, X by Sue Grafton.
I will have to think about 2016 challenge

message 3: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) Going to make my 100 this year, but cutting back to 52 for 2016. I found myself passing on books just because of their length. Also, I did not get as much out of each book as I would have liked. Going to read less (or at least slower) and deeper.

message 4: by Craig (new)

Craig Wickmann | 58 comments I hit my goal of 50 by the end of October and will probably make it to 60 by the end of the year. I think I will set my goal for 2016 at 60 and go from there.

message 5: by Bill (new)

Bill Good luck, guys...

message 6: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (tom471) | 2005 comments I think that I will challenge myself to 81 books and at least 25000 pages so as not to read too many short books. I will also try read at least 6 books toward my ongoing UN and US state challenge.

message 7: by Dominique (new)

Dominique I did 80 this year so l`m going up a little to 85 for 2016

message 8: by Bill (new)

Bill I've indicated in another group that I'm going to try an even 100 books. I'm struggling a bit this year to make my planned 95, so we'll see how successful I'll be.

message 9: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 3 comments Good Luck Everyone!

I love challenges because I'm the worst at deciding what to read next & most challenges do most of that work for me.

This year I'm challenging myself to read 125 books in 2016. I've decided to do the 50 Books, 50 States Challenge & PopSugar's 2016 Ultimate Reading Challenge. Those two challenges alone are 90 books, so I figured for this group I would challenge myself to read 25 of Amazon's 100 Mysteries & Thrillers to read in a Lifetime.

message 10: by Bill (new)

Bill Good luck Stephanie. That is quite a challenge.

message 11: by Angel (new)

Angel I have never given myself a set number for a year but I think that for 2016, I'm going to! I'm excited to see how many I can read but don't want to start with too high a number to make it feel "forced". I'm thinking 30. (:

message 12: by Jassem (new)

Jassem Al-Buloushi (jassemreads) I recently joined Goodreads. But I'm committing to reading 3-4 books a month next year. Trying to read more novels and fiction books about History. My set goal is 45 books for 2016!!!

H.A. Raynes (haraynes) | 19 comments Hi All!
I've just started a discussion / group and wanted to invite you in case you're interested. It's for book clubs and authors with the aim of creating a forum for the two to meet:

Cheers and happy reading!

So how does it work? Example -- my book group is reading Euphoria in January, so does that mean you can get Lily King on board in your group? If yes, this might be a good thing.

message 19: by H.A. (new)

H.A. Raynes (haraynes) | 19 comments Yes! That's the hope. I truly believe that most authors would love to interact with readers directly, I know I would (and do)! So being proactive, I've reached out to Lily to see if she would be interested. Let's see what happens! Stay tuned...

message 20: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 218 comments I have been cautious this year and decided on 25. However I am trying to read through Agatha Christie (in chronological order). She is always a quick read for me so I may exceed expectation.

Good choice, Esther!

message 22: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (anicholsb) This year The New York Times Groupies are reading a different genre each month. I'm definitely branching out and reading books I might never have picked up otherwise!

January - Historical
February - Romance/Chick-Lit
March - Young Adult
April - Humor
May - Fantasy/Science-Fiction
June - Contemporary
July - Utopian/Dystopian
August - Crime/Mystery
September - Classic/Literary
October - Horror
November - Non-Fiction
December - Adventure

Very nice -- you should make a separate thread though, so we can follow your progress!

message 24: by Caroline (new)

Caroline I like the idea of reading different genres. I'm hoping to do a read-a-thon for myself in the month of April beginning with Spring Break. I'm a writer.
