So let us know if you're interested in reading Against the Day starting December/January.

message 2: by Kristen (new) - added it

Kristen Would love to, thanks for the invite!

Markha (markha_i) | 1 comments Truthfully, I have never heard about this book before but it seems to have a potential to be an interesting read.
Thank you for inviting me to the group. I have never done group reading but have always wanted to do that. Bless technological progress for enabling us to find people with the same interests online.

That's great to know, Kristen! Let's wait and see who else join us so we can start making more concrete plans.

It seems to be a great read and one that would definitely benefit from discussion since it's so dense (so I've heard)..

Michael (mike999) | 12 comments Renato, it wouldn't hurt to ask Ian as he mentioned an interest recently.

Renato (renatomrocha) | 85 comments Mod
Ah, thank you, Michael! I messaged him.

Mercurialgem | 1 comments Thanks for the invite. I'm still getting through Mason & Dixon and liking it. I just ordered Against the Day btw. =]

message 9: by Ian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ian "Marvin" Graye | 5 comments Pynchon is one of my top four or five novelists. I've been making room for both "Mason and Dixon" and "Against the Day", and this will give me the impetus I need.

I will probably start "Mason and Dixon" now, with the aim of finishing it before the group read.

message 10: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) Thanks for the invitation, I'll try to make time.

Hope you are enjoying it – I certainly did! – and that it prompts you into reading AtD!

Good to hear. I'm interested, but it's very unlikely I'll be able to start before January. Thanks for the invite.

Thanks, Renato and Michael, for the invite. I'm quite excited about the prospect of tackling this novel together.

message 19: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) Renato, thanks for the invite. I've been doing some reading around that era so Against the Day would fit right in.

message 20: by Jaidee (new)

Jaidee (jaidee33) thanks for invite Renato...I have this book...I hope it's not like Infinite Jest by Wallace..

message 21: by Simon (new) - added it

Simon (sorcerer88) I'm in, probably! Sounds like an adventurous read. Seems like we'll have a big, devoted discussion group :)

message 22: by Russell (new) - added it

Russell | 1 comments I'm planning on reading the remaining 6 of Pynchon's books that I own and haven't read yet in 2016, with ATD being one of them. Happy to bring it forward by a month, and I'm excited by the prospect of reading it with everyone and sharing our thoughts.

I also want to read his other works! Only read M&D so far and had an amazing time.

Dave, great to hear from you! This should be as adventurous as reading Proust was last year :-)

Hey, Annie, so glad to have you here with us!

Amanda (tnbooklover) Some familiar faces :) I wasn't able to do Proust with you guys last year but I'm excited about this one. It might take me more than 2 months but I'm good to start anytime.

message 39: by Sue (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sue | 17 comments Mod
Hi Nicole (waving)

and Amanda, I know I will be taking longer than 2 months since it took me over 2 months for Mason & Dixon which is 300 pages shorter. I don't want to feel rushed.

message 40: by Dustin (new) - added it

Dustin | 14 comments Greetings, Renato! Love time no see, my friend! Thanks so much for the invite. It's an honor to be here. I'm not sure if I'd be able to read the book with you all, depending on when you read it, but I'll keep it in mind.:)

It's so great to see so many familiar faces here, too!!

message 41: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) And new friends too.

Stian (stians) Love the idea, Renato.

The only problem with me is that I ought to read it fairly quickly. My current semester ends the 19th of December, and the next one begins around the 15th of January. Ideally, I should be done by that time.

But even if I am forced to read it relatively quickly, I'd love to be in the group and see what everyone's thinking and follow everybody's thoughts! :)

message 43: by Sue (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sue | 17 comments Mod
Excellent Stian. I will probably start with you as we discussed earlier, but no way I can read at that speed. Good luck with your goal!

message 44: by Gary (new)

Gary the Bookworm (garmct) | 1 comments Thanks for the invitation. I must confess that I've joined a bunch of groups lately and find circumstances interfering with my participation. I hope things have settled down and I can be an active participant. I read Mason and Dixon decades ago and have wanted to read other things by Pynchon.
