Whether you've been a member since the beginning or are just now joining this group, take a moment below to introduce yourself so we can get a change to know each other! Feel free to throw in something about Gilmore Girls (favorite episode, why you started watching, etc.) Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I'll do mine first :)

I'm Laura and I'm from Charleston, South Carolina. I'm a Realtor and have a sweet golden retriever puppy named Maggie (who is crazy but adorable). I love reading and I enjoy a variety of different books. I've been focusing more on classics lately because I feel like I appreciate them more now that I am older. My favorite book is the Great Gatsby and I my favorite Gilmore Girls episode is Nick & Nora/ Sid & Nancy- although I love most of them. :)

message 3: by Patience (new)

Patience Williams (patiencew14) I'm Patience and I live in Fayetteville, AR. I'm a junior in college. I too am focusing on classics in my reading career currently! I've been especially enamored with Victoria era english novels and have really been falling in love with DH Lawrence lately. However, my all-time favorite book is Gone With the Wind. I love Gilmore Girls because I relate so much to Rory, especially now that I've started college!

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisar87) I'm Lisa and I'm from Sacramento, Ca. I'm an intern and a student. I spend a lot of my free time hiking, reading, and binge watching on Netflix. My favorite book is The Outsiders, and has been since I had to read it for school when I was 11. Lorelai is my favorite character on Gilmore Girls, but I've really wanted to complete Rory's reading list since I discovered it online years ago. I'll finally have a little more free time in my life, so I'm excited to be able to start! Nice to meet everyone! :)

message 5: by Grace (new)

Grace | 9 comments Hi everyone! I'm Grace. I live in Ohio and am in my third year of college, working towards completing a major in English with minors in Popular Literature and Film and Creative Writing. I started watching "Gilmore girls" in high school, and am now rewatching the series in my dorm when I have some spare time. I love Lorelai and Rory both! And Stars Hollow is just adorable. Aside from reading and watching "Gilmore girls", I like to spend time with my dog, go hiking, and write poetry.

message 6: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bitterbrandybabe) I was 14 when the Gilmore Girls first aired. I wore UFO pants, listened to KORN and hated everything about society, Gilmore Girls especially. I hated how fast they spoke that even the closed caption on the television could not keep up. I disliked their humor and witty banter. Fast forward to present day. I am 29 years old. I had an affair with another man whose girlfriend binged watch Gilmore Girls while he and I rendezvoused after hours. We poked fun at her past time but I was curious about her, I was curious about her likes and dislikes. Then, I hear about the Netflix revival of the show and the hype pulls me in like gravity. I watched one episode, now I am on season 3 and I can not give it up. I enjoy their banter and wit. I love how rapid their speech is and how fluid their movements are. The copious amounts of coffee I drink in competition with Lorelei as I binged a few episodes before work. My eyes draw to Rory, not only for her beauty but I see a little bit of myself in Rory, the loner. Though her dedication to learning is far superior, I now find myself looking up to her and strive to be equally as dedicated.

That is how I went from hate, to love.

Aside from reading, I write letters to pen pals, work full-time and go to college part-time. I started journaling when I was 12 and have been keeping a journal ever since.

The Rory Gilmore Challenge will be a challenge for me. I have poor reading comprehension and I hope to improve my critical thinking. I don't have a favorite author nor do I have a favorite book but I hope that changes during my reading journey.

Thank you, Suzanne.

message 7: by Darla (new)

Darla E. | 6 comments Hi my name is Darla and I'm from East Los Angeles, California. I studied English literature in college and I love reading and writing. Besides reading a lot I like to go to the movies and hockey games. Go Kings Go! ;)

I started watching Gilmore Girls when it first premiered and I guess I was in high school. I love the show so much and I loved Rory with Jess. I can't wait for the revival. I'm like the only person in my group of friends who likes GG my best friend makes fun of me for being a fan haha. So I'm glad I can meet you all here in this group and we can share something in common. :)

message 8: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (cadyly) | 1 comments Hi I'm Jenn and I love reading! I love the witticism of the Gilmore Girls and found this challenge. It seems like a worthy challenge, and I can certainly use more literature in my reading diet!

message 9: by Gio (new)

Gio Listmaker (giohumanistlistmaker) Hi my name is Gio,

I loved the Gilmore girls and watch the series at least once a year. I know I have a problem.

message 10: by Jen (new)

Jen | 2 comments Hi! My name is jen and I live In Philadelphia. I work at an AIDS Service Organization. For my 30th birthday I asked for the Gilmore Girls box set :)

I have been reading 10 books from the Rory Gilmore list every year for the past 2 years. Last year Sylvia Plath's Journals really tripped me up.

This is so exciting to have a venue to do this challenge with others.

message 11: by Giovanna (new)

Giovanna Fontenelle (giofontenelle) | 1 comments Hello!

My name is Giovanna, I'm 20 years old and from Brazil. Even though portuguese is my native language, I'm used to read books in english and I can't wait to participate in this challenge! I've read part of the list already, but now I want to try harder, read even more titles and I think this is a great way to do it.

I used to watch GG with my mom when I was little, but we stopped when I was about 9 years old. Later, with 16, I decided to watch again on my own. I soon realized how much I had in common with Rory: my passion for books, my kind of shyness, my grades and my major and my doubts when i got into college.

Almost five years later, I'm now a journalist, just like Rory, and I've come to realize how I grew up with her, even though i watched the series after it originally aired.

She's part of my past life and an inspiration and a reminder to what I still want to become and accomplish in the future! :)

message 12: by Grace (new)

Grace Hi everyone, I am Grace and live in Kansas. I never watched GG until Netflix but LOVE binge watching. My work is such that it allows me to watch at work most times so I can watch a lot. I love anything literature based and this group seems to be one that will help me in my personal goal to read the books from the series. A little more about me-I am married, for 30 + years and we have twin sons that are both married and we have 2 grandchildren under the age of 2. Love the Grandparent thing!! Glad to have found this group and I look forward to experiencing some great book talk!

message 13: by Marion (new)

Marion Hi, I'm Marion and live in Southern California. My husband and I have one toddler girl so I don't get to read as much as I used to/want to LOL. I want to read more classics this year so hoping Rory will inspire me :)

I didn't start watching GG until 2010 or 2011 on DVD. Love it!

message 14: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahj26) Hi everyone, I'm Hannah, and currently I live in St Louis Park, Minnesota, and am a grad student at U of M. I'm excited to join this challenge, but given all the school work I have, I suspect my progress will be slow. Still, I'm excited to participate when I can. :)

message 15: by Vaishali (new)

Vaishali Bhatia Hello all, I'm V and I just moved to Maryland. I spent the last two and a half years living in Germany but grew I up in New Jersey. I'm taking advantage of temporary unemployment by building more consistent reading habits, so here I am! I am excited to be a part of this book club, especially since there is such a variety of books included in Rory's reading list. Though I tend to lean towards the classics while choosing books, I am trying to include more contemporary books in my readings. Currently, I am reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. My all-time favorite work is Milton's Paradise Lost. I look forward to delving into this reading list and discussing the works.

message 16: by Erica (new)

Erica | 2 comments Hi, I'm Erica, a Canadian living in China. I'm a Grade 1 teacher and new mom, and I love to read, pretty much anything I can get my hands on. For 2016 I'm doing the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge, the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge, and the Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge (a Goodreads group), and trying to fit in as many Rory Gilmore books as I can into those challenges, alongside more contemporary books. So far I've read about 60 of the books on the list (in my lifetime). My university roommate introduced me to Gilmore Girls back when it was still on TV and it's become kind of a comfort show for me. I probably re-watch the whole series about once a year. Looking forward to discussing the books from the show with you :)

Whitney Ratliff | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Whitney and I live in North Carolina. I am a seventh grade math teacher. In my free time I like to read, cook, play with my dogs and hang out with my husband. I have never been apart of a reading challenge before but I am excited to start this one! :)

message 18: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (veile) | 3 comments Hello! I'm a librarian working in the Twin Cities area and I love the Gilmore Girls! I've always wanted to read all (or most) of the books mentioned. I'm just starting to use Goodreads and so I'm just figuring it out! This seemed like a fun place to dive in.

message 19: by Bren (new)

Bren Q (readingthebrontes) Hi everyone!
I'm Brenda and I live in Spain. I'm studying English at university, I've always been a book addict. Nowadays, what I enjoy the most are classics. My currently favourite books are Frankenstein and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I adored watching the Gilmore Girls with my mum because I felt related to Rory. When I found out there was a reading challenge like this I definitely wanted to join in. This group seems like an interesting way to do it. :)

message 20: by Leah (new)

Leah Chapman I'm Leah and I'm from Charlotte, North Carolina. I'm currently finishing up my BA in English (only one more semester to go!) Gilmore Girls was the first primetime show I was allowed to watch on television as a child, so it holds a very special place in my heart. Since I'm currently rewatching the show on Netflix I wanted to do the Rory Gilmore Challenge at the same time. I hope this group will help me keep up with it!

message 21: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Decoteau (kjdecoteau) I'm Kelly. I live in Alabama. I'm an avid reader and I'm currently watching The Gilmore Girls for the first time on Netflix. I'm at the end of season 6 so I'm rationing the shows I have left! I love lists and challenges and I'm looking forward to tackling some classics.

message 22: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 3 comments I'm Megan, and I'm from Louisiana. I have just finished watching the entire Gilmore Girls series, and I can't wait to tackle the Rory Gilmore challenge. For years, I have been meaning to read more classics, and this list is a great place to start!

message 23: by Perysh (new)

Perysh | 7 comments I am Linda I live in Naples, Florida! I remember when the show came out years ago I was obsessed with it and it reminded me of myself and my mom. I have always been a bookworm and awkward as Rory is portrayed. I have the collection in DVD and am excited to finally come across the challenge of Rory and Jess's collections! What a journey!

message 24: by Helga Mariel (new)

Helga Mariel (hmarielsoto) | 4 comments Hi! my name is Helga and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm finishing Gilmore Girls (I'm on the finale season) but I'm so in love with the series that I cannot wait to start reading all these amazing books. English is not my first language so I'll do my best to speak(write) as best as I can. Nice to meet you!

message 25: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (lamot_amant) Hi, everyone. I'm Ariel and I'm currently living in Alabama. I started watching Gilmore Girls a couple years after it first aired when I was in high school. My mom and I watched the majority of episodes together the first time around and I still end up binge watching a season (or several) whenever I need a boost or something comforting/fun on.

I think I related most to Rory with a few bits of Lorelai tossed in there for good measure. Some of my favorite episodes include S1's The Deer Hunters, S4's The Lorelais' First Day at Yale, & the start of Luke & Lorelai in S4's inn opening epis. Though I really didn't like the Rory-Dean deal very much. I like that the show went there, it was an important part of Rory's character. It was just a cringe-inducing season for me.

Oh, I can't forget Rory's graduation speech she gives at Chilton. One of my favorite moments.

I've always been a big reader. Whenever Lorelai would say something about how many books Rory would tote around my mom would just give me a look and laugh. You never know what you might feel like reading though imo!

Unfortunately I was sick for a few years and kind of fell out of sorts with my usual reading addiction for a bit. Last year I got on here and got back into things though so I figured it would be a good time to really look into reading books off this list. I've read several but there's plenty to go.

message 26: by Judith Marie (new)

Judith Marie | 43 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Marie from Germany, 25 years old. I'm studying law and am currently in my finals period, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to read (except law books obviously^^).
In my childhood I read excessively, but mainly fantasy and when forced to read what you would call "literature" in school, I hated it.
When watching Gilmore Girls for the first time, I identified with Rory (as apparently all of you ;) ), and soon got the idea to read the books she read and apparently enjoyed.
It has been two years since, and my reading habits have changed - I barely read fantasy anymore, and I even choose to read "literature" which isn't on the list.
I have never been part of a bookclub before, and since I don't have any friends who like to read, I'm not really used to discussing books, but I'm really looking forward to it :)

message 27: by Grace (new)

Grace Marie! Welcome to reading "serious literature"! Just kidding, but you should totally continue reading from the genre that you enjoy. I have been through many different genre phases in my life time so I think that whatever you read is good as long as you enjoy. There are still some books I just can't get into no matter the times I've started them. I've stopped fighting it and just read books that I enjoy. I've even taken a course that focused on the pressures and culture of reading for enjoyment verses "other" goal reading.

message 28: by Judith Marie (new)

Judith Marie | 43 comments Thank you Grace,

but let me assure you, that I am enjoying it! :)
I still read some fantasy, but not as much, and it just isn't as rewarding somehow.
I think I'm just in a different "genre phase" now, as you phrased it. ;)

message 29: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Hi, My name is Cheryl and I'm a married mom of 3 boys - 1 still at home. I love to read, but have been in a slump lately, starting books then not finishing them. I'm hoping this reading challenge will help me get over that! I've read several of the books on the list in the past, but plan to re read them. I just started watching the Gilmore Girls this week, and was so much like Rory in high school (like lots of you, I'm guessing!). I'm excited to be a part of this group!

message 30: by Sandra (new)

Sandra T Hi everyone!
I'm Alessandra and I write from Italy.
I used to enjoy GG at its first appearance on the Italian television and this summer I found it broadcast again, so I recollected all the pleasant feelings that GG has always inspired to me.
I would say I'm a bookish person. I don't share with Rory her general discipline, but I do understand her sense of living others lives through books, this is why I relate to her more than Lorelai or anyone else in the show.
I like being here, on this group, because of the common interest to the show and because I like meeting people from different places of the world. And also, I hope to improve my English practicing it with you all!

message 31: by MaggyGray (new)

MaggyGray Hello everyone!

My name is Carolin, I am from Germany (Bayern), 33 years old and am a huge bookworm. I can't live without books and always take at least one book with me.
After some years I rewatched the GilmoreGirls series again with the goal to read every book that has been mentioned in the serial. Some I have read already but there are a lot more left! :-)
This group and its members sound so lovely that I just HAD to join - I hope there will be a lot of book discussions with all of you, and get to know more bookworms like me. So send me a message whenever you like - I'm looking forward to it!
Have a nice day!
:-D

I've been lost in the new year on what to read and then I stumbled upon the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge and further research lead me here! I am so excited that this group exists and is currently active. I absolutely cannot wait to participate.

message 33: by Devyani (new)

Devyani Sethi Hi my name is Devyani! I live in New Zealand, I have decided to join the group because i have just started to watch Gilmore girls as i was too young when it first came out and and immediately fallen in love with the show and the characters especially Rory! I hope to enjoy more classical reads and feel like i am part of a reading club!

Thanks x

message 34: by Binal (new)

Binal Patel | 2 comments Hi, I'm Binal from New Zealand! I was invited to join this group by my best friend :) I am trying to get back into reading and think this is a great way for me to do it and also read some more classics! I am looking forward to being a part of a reading group!

message 35: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Hi! I'm Jordan. I am a gilmore girls addict. My sister and I have been trying to make our way through rory's book list for the past two years now. Its so hard to stay focused with so many great new books coming out but I found your group and thought it would help me get through it. Looking forward to it!

message 36: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Hi! I'm Kelli and living in Nebraska. I watched a few episodes of Gilmore Girls in high school with my sister and haven't gotten back into it until recently (thank you Netflix). I'm a counselor and new in my practice, so I don't have a lot of time to read now, but I'm reading as much as possibly now that I'm out of grad school and have the time to read what I want instead of dense textbooks. Very much looking forward to reading Rory's list!

message 37: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliemdobson) Hi everyone, I'm Julie (or Jules) and I live in Milton, Ontario Canada. Been a fan of Gilmore Girls for a while and a book lover longer - I may even put Rory's book collection to shame ;). I'm a step mom of two almost teenagers, and have two cats.

Last year I started collecting books from Rory's list I hadn't read - and now I have this group to help me along.

message 38: by Erin (new)

Erin (everchanginglady) Hi, I'm Erin. I used to be a big fan of The Gilmore Girls. Now I'm all about this list of books. I've been trying to branch out on the range of books that I read, and what a great place to start, this list. I've been loosely working on this list (Being a single mom of two little ones, I'm a little limited on time to read.) for a bit now, and would love to have a place to share viewpoints these books. I've loved what I've read of it to date.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all! You can call me angel. I am a HUGE fan of Gilmore Girls and I cannot wait for the new episodes they are making!

message 40: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Paoletti | 1 comments Hello! I'm Jessica. I'm pretty new to the world of reading, but I started taking a literature class this year, and I've fallen in love with reading (currently into some classics). I started watching Gilmore Girls re-runs after school when I was little, and I've been watching it since!

message 41: by Tanja (new)

Tanja Sprljan Szivo | 1 comments Hi everyone,
my name is Tanja from Croatia living in Germany. Watched Gilmore Girls numerous time. Looking forward to new episodes.
I have read many of the books from the list but decided to read all (or most) of the books again. Started last month and so far read 7. Some of them at loud with my son, and hoping he will be a book/gilmore girls fan when older. (I apologise for any mistakes in my English. It is my third language)

message 42: by Laura Ellis (new)

Laura Ellis | 6 comments Hi,
I am Laura and from Kentucky. I am a huge fan of the Gilmore Girls and just started rewatching all the seasons on Netflix. I am currently on Season 4.
I have a degree in English Lit and am passionate about books and love how books were intertwined into the story line of the show and Rory's character. I can't wait to get to know you all and join in the discussions.

message 43: by Carol (new)

Carol Hi
I'm Carol and I live in Brisbane Australia. I have to confess I have never watched the Gilmore Girls but I love reading and enjoy a challenge. I have heaps of favourites but a few that stand out are The Kite Runner and The God of Small things

message 44: by Shevaun (new)

Shevaun Ruby Hey everyone,

My name is Shevaun, and I'm currently attending the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, for my Master's in Library and Information Science (I want to be an academic librarian).

I watched the Gilmore Girls as a teenager and always envied Rory's seemingly inexhaustible supply of books. I've been chipping away at the Gilmore list for years, and I've read quite a few of them, but it's always nice to keep up with goals with a community! Some of my favorites are "On the Road", Dorothy Parker's short stories, "The Count of Monte Cristo" (which isn't on the list for some reason, although that definitely seems like a Gilmore book), and multiple others.

message 45: by Heather (new)

Heather I am Heather. I am a social worker from Baltimore. I watched GG when it was first released. I was in middle school at the time. I am rewatching on Netflix and love the pop culture talk and coffee drinking. I have so many favorite episodes. I loved the final episode in Season 1 where Max proposed with 1,000 daisies and the one where Rory is taken to that elaborate Life and Death Brigade event in the woods. I am aiming to read more and can't wait to participate. Also, I am team Jess or Logan...can't decide!

message 46: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (lrvjazzy) | 5 comments I have started my book collecting, but with school and work the only time I have to read is on my new 140 mile round trip commute. So with that I'm going to continue my collection, but try to find as many audio books to keep up on the reading/listening for now :)

message 47: by Megan (new)

Megan Kennedy | 1 comments Hello! My name is Megan. I have been in love with reading since 6th grade. Gilmore Girls is my all time favorite TV show. I love to paint and make music. I am also currently writing a novel!

message 49: by Cerys (new)

Cerys (cam2690) Hey guys, I'm Cerys from Wales, UK. Always been a big reader and used to love watching GG when I was younger. I have considered attempting this reading challenge a few times but I'm only now getting around to it :)

message 50: by Buttoncounter (new)

Buttoncounter Another newbie here! Most of my valuable free time is spent quilting, you can see my stuff on Instagram under the same name. I aim to read one of these books a month starting out, then maybe I can hit that 2 book per month goal after a few months. I relate more with Lorelai because of my age (and, okay, antics and sarcasm too) falling in line with hers. My daughter is in college and is a perfect morph between the two Gilmore girls. I have 3 kids, a husband, and zero pets. I am not a hoarder, but have managed to amass an obscene amount of fabric. Books, however, are kept at a slightly lower and controlled number...so far.
