Tessa (tessabeazley) Okay, I knew I had to post this discussion sometime so why not know. Do you think Divergent is too similar to The Hunger Games? Personally I think that while they do have similarities such as the factions/districts and stuff but all si-fi-ish novels have things in common! I just want to see some of your opinions too:)

Becca (someonewhoreads123) They both are similar being set in a dystopian future. I really don't like it when people say "the hunger games and divergent are SOO alike" because they aren't. Divergent is set in future Chicago and society is split into five factions each focused on a different trait to prevent another war like what their history books teach them happened. We later learn that they are in a city set up as an experiment to try to create "perfect genes" even though there is really no such thing, it's just a different type of genes. In the hunger games it is future North America, which has been divided into 12 (once thirteen, until an uprising happened that destroyed the district) with the capital city (called simply, the capital) controlling everything. The Capitol host "the hunger games" annually, which is a sporting event where two tributes from each district compete in an arena in a fight to the death battle. Later we learn that district 13 is still alive and a rebellion against the Capitol forms and they over power the Capitol.

I think they are similar with completely different plots, they both have very strong female protagonists (tris and katniss) but the themes are also very different, they do live in fictional times, both of which have been governed to have a peaceful society, but doesn't work! Both of them did work towards a ending that stopped the problem! But I think that the main idea of the fictional time is similar but both of the stories are extremely different! Also the romance part is extremely differ ant in each!
