Welcome! This ongoing discussion is your place to share what you are reading and what you think about it! It's fun to see what other people are reading in the community... plus you might discover a new book to read!

Reading a western right now. I received an advanced reader's copy of Larry McMurtry's Last Kind Words Saloon. A couple of the main characters are Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday so of course I'm constantly picturing Val Kilmer while I'm reading it even though it takes place prior to their epic Tombstone clash.

I've never read McMurtry before. The story seems a little choppy but I wonder if it is because it is an ARC. Has anyone else read him? I know he wrote Lonesome Dove.

Reading Forty Chances: Finding Hope In a Hungry World by Howard Buffet. I am skimmming this book because it contains more info than I can ingest, yet, once again I am struck by the wisdom of Warren Buffet, who never handed his kids their future. Finding his own way, Howard Buffet has become a voice for the least and the last.

I just finished listening to Defending Jacob by William Landay. It's an excellent blend of a legal thriller and and psychological suspense and also quite thought provoking. The story is told by a lawyer, a former prosecutor for the District Attorney's office of his local community, whose son is accused for the murder of a classmate. While he is focused on defending his son and proving he didn't do it, the reader is wondering if his son really could have committed the crime--and if so, how much culpability do the parents have?

Marie | 8 comments I wanted something fun and quick, and started reading Midnight in Austenland today. I loved the first book (and the movie!), and so far, this sequel is exactly what I was in the mood for.

Melanie | 212 comments I just finished My Abandonment and found it to be on the creepy side. For one character I did go through a range of emotions - sympathy, hope, cheering, and finally anger. I don't expect to have everything always wrapped up in the happily ever after bow, but I couldn't help hoping a hunter's stray bullet would hit her in the winter.

Wow, sounds like we should have quite a lively discussion on it at the So Many Books discussion group meeting on Sunday!

I just finished The Black Country, by Alex Grecian. It's the second book in the Scotland Yard Murder Squad series. I'm not normally a fan of mysteries, but I read the first one, The Yard in two days, and then had to follow right up with this one. Fast-paced, grounded in history, and kept me reading into the night despite the shudders!

My husband and I have started reading Game of Thrones. The first book in the A Song of Fire and Ice series. We are sharing the same book. We have two bookmarks to mark our places. It is a good book. It has been a long time since I read a book that was hard to put down.

We have finished the first book of A Song of Fire and Ice series and started the next. It is a good series. A little strong in the words used and quite a bit of sexual context, but good all in all if you like this kind of stories. Fantasy and Knights. My husband says it is a mix of England history and another world.

Hi Cheryll! Glad you're enjoying the series. It is one of my favorites. I still need to read the 5th book in the series and I keep hoping his sixth book should be out in a year or two. I think that is why I've been dragging my feet to read the 5th book. :)

We just bought the third and fourth books from Barnes and Noble today. We had some coupons to use. There are a lot of badies I want to see gotten rid of. Lol.
