Clarance (radioactiveshoes) | 1 comments Hey all! My first post here - hope I'm doing this right. :P

I absolutely adore dragons, but haven't managed to find many books about them. So far the only (published) books I've read are the Inheritance Cycle - which I loved - & the first book in the Tamerair (however you spell it...) series - which I also loved. Oh, & the hobbit of course - not that Smaug gets much of a mention, sadly.

I've heard of the Riders of Pern, & the author Hobb, but that's it.

Any more author's/books/series I should definitely read? I love it when the dragons are characters, not just villains, but am happy to read anything (helps with the writing...).

Thanks very much. (^*.*^)~~

- Kitten

Kelly | 8 comments E.E. Knight wrote a few dragon books. The first one is called "Dragon Champion," and it's told through a dragon's eyes. And he's not a villain! Also, "The Waters of Nyra" has dragon protagonists and antagonists. I wrote that one (shameless plug.... if you'll forgive me!!)

You can check out the bookshelf to find more dragon books to read. We also have plenty of dragon authors in this group. Feel free to ask them to read and review their books. Are you writing a dragon book? If so, feel free to talk about it in the Dragon Books category. And welcome to the group! Because you're a new member, make yourself known in the "say hi" thread so we'll know you're here. May Ashuton Karrucci be with you! (He's my space dragon :D)

C.A. Rose | 50 comments Robin Hobb's series is one of my favorites. As you get to the second book, the dragons become characters. I get a lot of books at Half Price (sorry authors, I know you don't get your cut) so here are some that you would probably have to get off Amazon:
"Mistress of Dragons" by Margaret Weis
"Dragon Prince" Melanie Rawn from her Dragon Star series
"The Hidden Dragon" and "The Glass Dragon" by Irene Radford
"Jouster: by Mercedes Lackey. 1st in a series. also "Alta" and "Sanctuary"
"Dragon Weather" by Lawrence Watt Evans. Also "Blood of a Dragon" and "The Wizard Lord"
If you want to venture away from dragons K.J. Taylor writes about griffins: "Ghe Dark Grifin", "The Griffins Flight: and "The Griffins War"
That's all the titles I have with me at work. I too enjoy them when they are presented as other than just villans and my pet peeve as when they are just beasts of burden with no personality of their own.

Amy Keeley (safire_blue) Do you want fantasy only or is PNR okay? All the fantasy books I can think of have already been mentioned. The only other ones I can think of are definite romances.

Dianne Astle | 45 comments I am going to come back to this thread and check out the books listed by C.A. when I have some time to read.

I have two that you might be interested in, Kitten the Claire. They're called Dragon Dreams and Dragon Ties. I'd be happy to send them to you in exchange for a review. Would be happy to do that for anyone in this group for that matter. Their genre is Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. I'll post the blurb for Dragon Dreams, the 1st book, below. If you decide that you'd like to give them a try, I'll be happy to send them to you! Just message me here on Goodreads.

"The characters are rich, and spring to life on the pages, drawing you into their lives as you walk beside them on their journeys." ~Reader’s Frenzy

The heart of Terradin . . . is fading away, and it's only hope rests in the one person that Nachal has vowed to protect at all costs. Because to save her,
is to save them all.

Nachal, foster son of the great Dragon-King Cerralys has the same dream night after night.

In them, an elf named Auri lays dead, murdered by the Rebel Dragon's leader Obsidian on a massive plain of fire.

Racing against time, he sets out from Eldaria to prevent the prophetic dreams from coming true.
To do this he must avoid capture by the long reach of Obsidian's gathering army, and find a mystical land that has been lost for more than two decades. A land that is reputed to flow with breath-taking beauty and vitality.

But will what he finds there be what he needs? Or something that will haunt him for all eternity.

Best Wishes, Dusty Lynn Holloway

I read the first three chapters. It looks good! And I didn't think you were saying I Dusty lol. I know phones can be tricky sometimes.

Ricardo Chévere (dragonwriter) | 17 comments Hello Kitten, I'm one of those authors that L'Pony mentioned in her message. Forgive me for the self-promotion here, but, you are asking for stories where the dragons are characters and not just some mindless beasts. Then, take a look at my series DRAGONS, and its first two published titles, The Essential Ties and The Fury. Look up my author page here on Goodreads and check it out. If you're looking for dragons with great power, wisdom, and personality, then, DRAGONS is the series for you.

message 15: by A.D. (new)

A.D. Trosper (adtrosper) I too am one of the authors here. If are still looking for dragon books, you might consider checking out my Dragon's Call series. The first book is Embers at Galdrilene.

Marc Secchia (marcsecchia) | 35 comments I thought I'd add two more to the list: Aranya Aranya (Shapeshifter Dragons, #1) by Marc Secchia and The Pygmy Dragon The Pygmy Dragon (Shapeshifter Dragon Legends #1) by Marc Secchia . I'm the author of both books, and both are Amazon bestsellers in their respective categories. Thank you for considering my work.

message 17: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette Westlake | 1 comments If you liked the Inheritance Cycle, you'll probably like the dragon characters in the War of the Blades books, Dragon Fate and Dragon Blade.

message 18: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (geonerd98) | 2 comments You might consider reading Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. It's a little different than most dragon books you might have read because the main character is actually a half-dragon. However, that's what makes it an enjoyable read. I hope you like it if you choose to read it.

message 19: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Campbell | 7 comments The Dragonian series by Adrienne Woods I highly recommend the first book is Firebolt (The Dragonian, #1) by Adrienne Woods and the fourth book Moonbreeze (The Dragonian, #4) by Adrienne Woods will be out soon. Also Going Down in Flames (Going Down in Flames, #1) by Chris Cannon and Bridges Burned (Going Down in Flames, #2) by Chris Cannon is good too!

message 20: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (abigailmostlyweirdpartiallysnark) | 1 comments A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan is very, very good, but it doesn't really have the battles and magic and stuff. Just studying dragons for science.
