Tyler Bossom | 104 comments Well I would think there has to be some regulation on stuff but it depends on how far you go with it

I say it depends. If you're talking about uniforms in school, I say that's dumb. If you're talking about uniforms at work then I say that's necessary.

message 3: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Bossom | 104 comments I think at a workplace it would only be necessary if you needed to distinguish between somebody like a police officers uniform or distinguishing between a nurse or doctor. But if you were a teacher or something like that, I don't think it would matter that much.

I guess they do because they go.......wait.......what's the difference between the army and the military?

message 7: by bb. (new)

bb. (magnumopus) | 21 comments I think having a dress code is a smart and reasonable thing. Obviously there's a time and place for everything, for example, you wouldn't wear a t-shirt and sweatpants to your workplace(especially if you have a corporate job). Similarly, you wouldn't parade around wearing a bikini in Mecca or Vatican City.

If it's not a private school, there shouldn't be any uniforms.

I would love to have a dress code. It would make life at school so much easier.

message 15: by Artsygal402 (new)

I think it shuts out the first amendment.

The kind of school you attend AFTER Elementary/Grade school but BEFORE high school. DUH!

Caitlyn: In theory kids still in school have no rights from the time they step off the school bus upon arriving to school until they get BACK on the bus to go home. UNTIL high school. In theory, the 1st Amendment is only for ADULTS.

An easier explanation: Said part of the Constitution says we have the right to say "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theater, but practice on the other hand says we have no right to say "FIRE!" in a crowded theater unless there REALLY is a fire unless we want to be charged with either attempted manslaughter or inciting a riot.

Precisely. As a species, we are singularly INCAPABLE of doing ANYTHING that even REEKS of common sense.

Amber Martingale | 1507 comments If you're under the age of 20, you're probably not yet old enough to realize it's the truth.

message 22: by Arwen (new)

Arwen We don't have a dress code here in Wellington, probably due to the fact we have a uniform. And our teachers don't complain about the length of the skirt unless you have it really high, which some of the seniors do

message 23: by Arwen (new)

Arwen Not to us. We don't think of it that way. I guess it is if you think about it...

But there is no real way to wear your uniform. Some girls tuck in their shirts other don't etc.

message 24: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale | 1507 comments And if the rules say you have to wear your shirt tucked in, but some girls don't, then it's not really a uniform, is it? Because uniform, means you know..uniform, Arwen.

message 25: by Arwen (new)

Arwen Seriously? That happens where you are? It's different here. We don't have a point system. Granted the way to wear your uniform is untucked, but I have not seen one person told off for wearing it tucked in. It's hard to explain, my school is a private one so that might be why we are different

Arwen: Not in my school because I haven't gone to school since I did my college graduation walk down in December, 2000. Northern Arizona University didn't have a specific dress code/uniform policy when I went there.

And I honestly don't know what the policy is at Governor French Academy which is the ONLY school in Belleville, IL. that requires an official uniform, I mean as far as points/grades go, Blackstarr103.

*wink*

message 35: by Jasna (new)

Jasna Nickells I think its important to have a Dress code. for example, policemen have a dress code which Identifies them as police. I also quite like dress codes. I think its smart.

True, but hopefully it WON'T be about what they are wearing because hopefully the dress code will disallow designer accessories... .

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I went to a Catholic grade school where I had to wear a school uniform. To this day I refuse to wear a plaid skirt!

Not meant to be "fun." Meant to decrease distractions from what OTHER people are wearing and by cutting down distractions, increase test scores and "learning."

Are you a teacher?

message 45: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale | 1507 comments No, I am not a teacher. I am, however, a former student. I was out of school by the time the last grade school I attended in Scottsdale, AZ. went to uniforms. My middle school, Supai, also went to uniforms after I was in college (Northern Arizona University) in Flagstaff. Coronado, my high school, did it too.

From what I have heard, disciplinary problems at all three schools went DOWN after the implementation of the dress code.

https://concrete.susd.org/schools/cor...
https://concrete.susd.org/schools/supai/ and https://concrete.susd.org/schools/yav... are the schools I went to prior to becoming a Lumberjack. http://www.nau.edu/
