I've been wearing a black arm bad since the news was announced. I also wonder how much of a punch the publishing industry is going to take loosing an important outlet for authors.
I'm happy for Stephen, but sad for the colbertnation.

I wore my Stewart/Colbert '08 t-shirt a couple of days after the announcement and someone asked me if I was wearing it because I was in mourning :)

Well said!
When he was on Letterman the other night, I began to wonder about a band. (Why do all late night talk shows have bands, anyway?) So, do we think he's going to have a band, and if so, any ideas who or what? A pre-existing band, like Jimmy Fallon using The Roots? A put-together band with someone famous as its leader, like Seth Meyers' 8G band led by Fred Armisen? Or just a random collection of musicians? And how weird would that be seeing Stephen Colbert with a house band?? Oh, this whole thing is going to be an adventure!

I've been wondering that, too! That first section of the show -- namely the monologue, but little features after it, like Fallon uses, and when Letterman's Top Ten List -- is pretty open, so would he do a monologue and then some Colbert Report-like features and satire? Or is he just going to handle it like the rest of the talk shows and do a monologue and then some additional jokes behind the desk?

Me, I'm actually really sad about it! It's nice that he's getting more recognition, but I LOVE my Jon&Stephen fix at night. Now it's going to be just Jon, and it's been almost a DECADE (Wow!) since we've had no Stephen to watch after Jon's show.
Speaking of it being a decade, they've said that they'll announce Stephen's start date after Letterman announces his end date, but do you think they might hold off on Stephen's switch over until his 10-year anniversary of The Colbert Report, which would be Oct. 17? It seems like a nice round number to end on.
