Dino Hsu (dinohsu1019) | 10 comments Buying a book that ships from overseas is expensive in terms of shipping cost, so I usually follow the following workflow before buying:
1. Is digital form available?
Yes: buy the digital form
No: move on:
2. Is English version sold in Taiwan?
Yes: buy from the channel that sells it.
No: move on:
3. Is a Chinese translation available?
Yes: buy the Chinese translation
No: move on:
4. Compare the shipping cost:
Usuallly Book Depository is cheaper than Amazon in terms of total cost, although the book prices is higher.

I might not have the up-to-date information, so what's your take? Thanks.

Yuan-Ming (ymc47) | 12 comments Hey Dino,

For books you can usually ask a bookstore to order the title for you if they don't carry it, then you don't have to pay for shipping usually. For Eslite, they offer 23 percent off English books for members every seventh of the month, which is a pretty sweet deal.

Dino Hsu (dinohsu1019) | 10 comments I see this message from Amazon US, do you want to change your country setting? I do not trust Amazon's ability to link among countries, my experience about US & Japan lead me to believe it'll be a disaster if you do.

Great news! You can now buy Kindle eBooks directly from Amazon.cn.

Have you moved recently? You may change your country on the Manage Your Content and Devices page.

A.T. Beaune (atbeaune) | 2 comments As a Taiwan resident I have little reason to feel good about sending data to Beijing, where Amazon CN is based. Don't even get me started on the freedom of expression issues associated with publishing and selling in China.

As I have experienced no 'disasters' with Amazon accounts in other countries, I will continue to use those.

I'm with you on this one, Alton!

Vivian Chen (Vivian's Book Pavilion) (viviansbookpavilion) Barns and Nobles is also a great way to buy books!

Travis Shui (travis_shui) | 1 comments For someone who is not against the idea of reading e-books and looking for bargains, I will suggest you to go for kindle and amazon e-books. The price is always cheaper for e-books than hard/paper copy, and arrival time of your order is just within 5min!

Don't forget to buy used books!

I usually go to WHOSE books in Gongguan.

There is also Mollie's books too.

On Facebook there is also an 二手書買賣 group to buy from people.

Message me if you want to trade or buy some used books. I have a lot that I'm looking to trade or sell.
