J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments Anyone read the Lucifer graphic novels and have any thoughts or opinions about the new TV show loosely based off of them?

The graphic novels were mostly dark, with a touch of humor. Lucifer wasn't necessarily evil as much as he just didn't give a crap and was self absorbed.
The new TV show has him much more charismatic and humorous. Which of course I'm sure is required for a TV show.

Anyone planning on catching it?

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) | 95 comments I didn't read the graphic novel and I haven't heard much about the TV show but I'm always game for a new paranormal show so I'll probably check it out,

Kellie (track_star24) | 22 comments Never knew the show was based on comics so I've never read them. But the synopsis and trailers I've seen for the show have definitely peaked my anticipation for the premiere. Looking forward to it!

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) I just saw its preview for the 1st time just last night. Cute guy, love actress Lauran German, planned to check it out. Never knew its history tho. Hope its good, but I don't hold out too much hope that it'll be something I follow religiously.

Irene (irenemikhaylova) | 478 comments Had no idea the show was based on a graphic novel but I loved the pilot and I'm sure to start watching it when it comes out late in January!

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments I highly recommend the graphic novels. Neil Gaiman created the character in Sandman and Mike Carey spun them off after Lucifer abandoned his post in Hell.
The TV show sounds a bit more like a buddy crime comedy than a lost Godlike being trying to find a purpose for his life that the Graphic novel captured.
Then there's Mazikeen - his loyal companion and hopelessly in love with him. Never sympathized with a demon quite so much as I did with her unrequited love.

At the end of summer or the beginning of autumn. Something like that. I don't remember the exact date but it was quite some time ago. And I liked it very much!

My thoughts also.

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments It is fun, and a little sexy, but mostly fun. I really hope they do something more with Mazikeen, she's such a tragically romantic figure in the comics, following Lucifer out of Hell because she loves him. But Lucifer can't love anyone except himself.

I highly recommend the graphic novels Lucifer, Vol. 1 Devil in the Gateway by Mike Carey

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 229 comments I've watched the first two episodes and despite it being another murder solving show I enjoy it.

The actor playing Lucifer is awesome and I love that it's fun with just a hint of darker themes and ideas.

(I also love seeing the female cop is a character I loved from Chicago Fire. I actually quit watching after she got killed off.)

☽ Rhiannon ✭ Mistwalker ☾ (pnr_list) | 133 comments I LOVE the graphic novels and to be honest, the TV show is pretty terrible if you're a Gaiman loyalist, but I am trying to separate it out in my brain so I can enjoy a mindless paranormal TV show without chaffing at its drastic departure from the source material.

Richard Murray | 4 comments The graphic novels are exceptional and when I heard about the show I was prepared to hate it. However... I don't. The guy who plays Lucifer was in a show called 'Rush' where he played a Doctor. I liked him in that and the female detective from Chicago fire so figured I would give it a go.

I was pleasantly surprised. Lucifer is funny as hell *pun intended* and the reasons for helping her make more sense than I expected. It's worth a try for the humour alone, I mean the way he acts around her daughter is usually funny.

One scene she runs up and hugs him. Clearly uncomfortable he picks up her doll, throws it and says "Well, go on, fetch."
She just laughs so he looks to the mother and says "What, too advanced for her?"

That particular scene amused me. It showed he had absolutely no idea what to do with kids but when he does speak to her, he treats her exactly as he would anyone else which for a kid is quite endearing. Who wants to be talked down to all the time?

I liked that the daughter said he was funny after telling her to fetch. I don't know why but that stuck with me.

message 17: by Richard (new)

Richard Murray | 4 comments Aye, she finds him amusing. Most likely because he doesn't treat her like a normal adult would treat a kid.

So long as you don't watch it in the hopes of seeing a live action Lucifer comic... it's really enjoyable. One of those few programs I watch each week and actually look forward to.

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments A retelling of the comic wouldn't work on the Big 3, HBO/Showtime or something, maybe. They're doing Preacher on AMC - so another one to hold my breath over. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preache...
And yes, that's Howard Stark :)

message 19: by Richard (new)

Richard Murray | 4 comments Preacher I enjoyed reading once but unlike Lucifer I couldnt read it again. Some of the mythos of the story will be hard to show on TV> Seth Rogan is a huge fan though so I expect he'll keep it close to the original as it could possibly be.
They made a huge deal of casting for A**eface and he was my least favourite character. The inability to understand him will be even more irritating on the TV show

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments (shudder) A**eface made me sick to my stomach ;P

Black_White (black_white_2) | 17 comments I'm watching the TV show. I didn't know it was based on a graphic novel. I don’t really understand thee tv show much though. there isn't exactly a plot to the story. all the episode which are only 2 episode's don't really have a plot. what is the show really about

message 22: by J.D. (last edited Feb 08, 2016 03:15PM) (new) - added it

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 38 comments Like many of these, they are made to 'stand alone' as single shot 'crime stories'. But there is an overarching plot - in this instance, Lucifer's conflict with his father and the effect of leaving Hell. Amenadiel (the angel) and Lucifer's conflict is obviously going to be part of the meta-plot. Amenadiel is from the Graphic Novel and hates Lucifer. Expect Lucifer's 'humanizing' that Mazikeen complains about to also be part of the meta-plot.
Hopefully we also have Mazikeen's love of Lucifer also as a sub-plot.
That's all made so you can watch one week or another and not feel too left out and still enjoy the stand alone story.

Lol i totally agree, and the bacon. I love this show.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) I watch the TV show. I think it's hellarious! I hope it gets renewed and hasn't been cancelled.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) So glad Lucifer was renewed for another season. However, I thought in the first season he had agreed to stop calling her ex-husband "Detective D@#che."
