Welcome to Terminal Coffee! We discuss cheese and Pop Culture here. If You're New You Might Want To Run Away Fast

You forgot to mention the occasional shebangs and music and movie discussions, RA. We take our entertainment seriously.
Hi y'all. I'm Heidi, but you can call me "Heidi."

I have to agree with you Angabel, this is a great group of people, I have been on other message boards and such and seen them disintegrate due to pettiness. Any disagreements here are always very mild and handled extremely well.
::quickly slides behind the ficus::

P.S. see RA? I was the only one to say hi except Heidi!!!! (:

:) Bonus points to Knarik for pointing out that I said hello earlier in the thread. ::high fives::
That looks like a lot of letters for just hello Knarik, any chance I can get a translation.

I wrote first line in Armenian and then in Russian. I wrote "Hello to all new members of this group"
Thanks Knarik, Angabel & Bun.
We should seal this thread when its over and put it in a virtual capsule to be opened and read in 50 years.

In some thread I can't remember people mentioned that new people might get intimidated by TC (Terminal Coffee) culture, so I thought I'd start this thread to let you know a little about the board. Personally, new people, I have faith in you, unlike those other TC members. (points at members who aren't looking in this direction)
TC started because some other goodreads message boards were fading a little and we needed a new venue for conversation. We talk about, well, just about anything that enters our pretty little minds. Check the thread titles/categories for ideas. If you feel like you're interrupting a private conversation, well, stop feeling that way right now. Stop it! Thank you. Everyone knows that conversations here are open and you're more than welcome to participate. I'd say we encourage new perspective and fresh blood improves the board, so don't be shy. On the other hand, if you just want to hang out and watch, that's your party, too. As of today we have 357 members but I'd say about, oh, thirty or forty contribute regularly, with another thirty or so dropping by every now and then like guest stars on a variety show. Some of us work near our computers and check-in pretty often, some of us don't. Weekends are sometimes a little slower. Who are we? Hell, check our profiles. But we're everything from a nineteen year old southpaw Math genius on the east coast to a bald motorcycle ridin' guy from Indiana to moms of young kids to grad students to whoever. Some people seem to think we're dorky and boring, and hell yes, I'm sure we are to some. But you're welcome here. We tend to lean somewhat left, honestly, but right-wingers are welcome, too. We fight every now and then but not often. I've stomped off in anger and threatened to leave like a five year old after too much sugar. But I've come to learn that in two days most internet fights seem silly. Because they are. We want to be able to disagree without being assholes. I don't know how to put it more simply than that.
I like to think we're here to feel a little less alone in the world. But everyone has their reasons for showing up. There are in-jokes, sure, but don't be afraid to ask what they mean. Disclaimer: chances are the explanation is no longer funny.
Please don't hawk your product here unless we know you.
This is all just my point of view, of course. TC belongs to all of us. Other TC people, please add/clarify/modify anything from the above. Welcome to TC! This board won't last forever, but thank you, everyone, for taking the time to visit and participate. I mean that.
