State of the nation:
Things Fall Apart

message 4: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 904 comments I'll submit Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis for comedy. I will second Things Fall Apart for state of the nation, as I already have this on request from my library...

message 5: by Tom (new)

Tom I only just realised that Puckoon, which I just read a week or two ago, is on the list. I suppose it would be a bit of a cheat to nominate that now. Instead I'll go for Scoop by Evelyn Waugh.

For the 'State of the Nation' book (rather odd category) I'll nominate GB84 by David Peace.

State of the Nation:
Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse

and Comedy:
Zazie dans le Metro Zazie in the Metro by Raymond Queneau

Hannah Shilling | 3 comments My nominations are:

Comedy - The Witches of Eastwick - John Updike
State of the nation - The Plague - Albert Camus

The second one is at the bottom of my to be read pile and it's really about time I read it!
