I like this list! I stole a couple of them for my list! And of course added my Christmas books!

I'm really loving our lists!!! Can't wait to read Little Women together.....and let me know when you start The Gunslinger. I'm dying to start that new series. My brother has been bugging me about that for AGES!

1 down! I've finished The Nightingale. Wow. Loved it. Anyone who likes WWII historical fiction should really read this book.

Pam, I could start The Gunslinger almost anytime. When are you up for it? Also, I've gotten a second copy of Little Women so that Anja can read it when I do... are you guys up for it at some point? She won't have time until the end of February, but any time after that should be okay. :)

I started The Nightingale, and I'm loving it so far! I'm on page 138 of 411, so I'm making pretty good progress! I should be done before our trip!

I can start Little Women at the end of February! I'm excited to read again as an adult. I read it so many times as a kid that my copy fell apart! I'm interested to see how different it is to read it as an adult.

2 down! I finished Shadows of Self today. Woot.

And I'm getting close to being halfway done with New Spring. And on a side note, blood orange Noosa is AMAZING. The worst part about it is that it's a limited batch thing. Not fair.

message 10: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I loved the blood orange! I had it this morning!

I am reading The Wise Man's Fear (#2 Kingkiller Chronicles) which is my book Number 2 of the year and it is a chunker but I'm blasting through it. About 1/4 of the way done right now. I am REALLY wanting to start The Nightingale since everyone is gushing about it...and I can start Little Women with all a y'all at the end of this month if that's the plan....I can't wait to do it! My plan is to finish The Wise Man's Fear within the next 10 days....Blow through The Nightingale and then be ready to start Little Women with you....followed by March of course.......and then Jenni.....THE GUNSLINGER.....this is the one I am most anticipating. My brother is SO ON ME about this. Apparently I'm some abomination of a self-proclaimed book worm if I haven't read King's Gunslinger series. OY! Are you hearing the same from people? Apparently it is the fantasy series of all fantasy series'.......humpf. WE shall see!

message 12: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Oh Pam, The Nightingale is AWESOME! I loved it, and Sonja is reading it now. I am over halfway through The Wise Man's Fear, but am listening to it with Wim, so it will take some time to finish. I'm up for Little Women at the end of the month, just let me know if you plan changes.

For The Gunslinger, EVERYONE seems to says that it's good, and just to read it even if you don't enjoy the first book because it supposedly is way super duper awesome after the first book. We should try to read that one together. I just need to pop in on my nook. Let me know! I'd love to not read it alone!

message 13: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
WOW my plans are foiled. I'm STILL reading The Wise Man's Fear. I planned to be 2 books ahead of this point thus far. Humpf! What are you reading now? I can read anything after this one. I like it....I've just been REALLY busy with stuff. I'm ready to move on to the next book though. I love this one it's just taking me SO LONG!

message 14: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I'm listening to The Wise Man's Fear (almost done) and The Mists of Avalon. For actual book reading, I'm supposedly reading The Bands of Mourning, but I've been too lazy to actually read. So busy! After one weekend of regionals and two weekends of state meets, I'm exhausted... and looking forward to a break between seasons to hopefully read. You take your time, and let me know when you're ready for The Gunslinger... peachy?

message 15: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
Peachy! Have a little over 100 pages to go on The Wise Man's Fear.....and my time is essentially opening up a bit with Nico's wrestling fizzling down (kind of).

message 16: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Great job to Nico yesterday! I just finished The Wise Man's Fear last night. I'm so confused at the ending, which wasn't an ending. Ugh!

message 17: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
Almost done with Wise Man's Fear......and (aside from not knowing the ending) this was a WEIRD book....COMPLETELY taking us AWAY from the initial story, plot and characters....WHICH...I'm assuming the travels, people and places in THIS book will eventually all come together but.......

(pardon the French) This one is a mind-fuck. It's like......WHAT?

message 18: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
EXACTLY!!!! So frustrating! Yeah, so the ending is still mind-fuck status. I was honestly so baffled! I LOOOOOOOOOOOVED the first book so much. I really want to like this book, but I'm beyond confused. For as long as it will take for the third book to come out, I'm not sure that I'll continue. Well, I might give it a shot I guess since the first book was so good.

message 19: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
DONE. And....I'm still baffled. It's like a totally different story was started WITHIN the original story and for good measure...let's just end it like THIS.....so......what's the story anyway? Not sure I like the writing anymore. It's like Book 4 of Game of Thrones. Makes you want to throw the book at the author. Ugh. I WANT to give it a 4....but it REALLY is a 2 or 3 for satisfaction. I love Kvothe as a character....but the story line isn't flowing. And I hate that. I'm reading the Nightingale and then The Gunslinger. That's my plan, man.

message 20: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I agree! So yeah, I felt the exact same way about books 4 and 5 of GoT. I didn't finish 5. I figure I'll just watch the series. It's like good Cliff's Notes.

I wanted TWMF to be a five star book so badly. I ended up with 2 stars at the end because it was just okay, I didn't walk away satisfied, I ended up confused.

You'll love The Nightingale! I'll get Gunslinger ready to go. I'll either listen to it or borrow the book from the library. Haven't decided the format yet.

message 21: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
5 from my challenge list down, and I'm 65% finished with The Mists of Avalon. I'm ready to start Gunslinger whenever you are, Pam! :)

message 22: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
OK! I finally finished Wise Man's Fear....and I am now blasting through The Nightingale....so let me know when you are close to being done with The Mists of Avalon....which is one of my all time favorite books!!! Do you love it? I love the twist of reading King Arthur's story through the eyes of the women..........And then....The Gunslinger!

message 23: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Hey Pam! I'm probably 70% finished with The Mists of Avalon. I LOVE it! Anja and I are watching the Merlin series on Netflix too, so that makes Avalon even better.

I'm ready to go for Gunslinger... I have the book in my nook and everything! (I just bought it! WOOHOO!)

message 24: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Halfway done with my list! I've completed six books. I'm working on Gunslinger, so on my way to finishing number seven. YAY!

message 25: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
You're flying through them! I've finished 4 of mine. I thought about starting After Alice last night, but decided maybe I should read Alice in Wonderland first.

message 26: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Well, I have been able to crank out a lot of audio books this year. That's so much easier than a book... While it takes longer to listen than read, I have more listening time these days!

message 27: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
I'm working on The Gunslinger. More than halfway through. I'm a bit confused but keeping in mind that this is supposed to set up the story......Did you like Avalon? It's one of my FAVORITE books. I love the POV.

message 28: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I'm confused too, and am pretty close to the halfway point. Everyone says to just read it no matter what, and go on to book 2. So it must be good!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Avalon! Have you read other Avalon-type books?

message 29: by Pamela (last edited Apr 26, 2016 12:38PM) (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
YES!!! I read all of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon books. There are others......all related to and part of the existence of Avalon before during and after......LOVE them all. Love the mysticism and whimsy....

I've read The Forest House and Lady of Avalon. Need to read Priestess of Avalon.......

message 30: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I guess I need to read more! I really did enjoy The Mists of Avalon. At the end though, I was kind of ready for her to wrap it up, but I wasn't really ready to leave Avalon yet. Avalon has left a hole in my heart! I need more.

8 books down. Nice. I've just started listening to The Emperor's Blades. I have no idea what this book is about... I picked it for this year because I LOVE Simon Vance as a narrator AND because the author is compared to Brandon Sanderson. Here's to hoping that I like it!

message 32: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
preparing myself for reading Little Women and then March....I am now tackling Rebel Yell which is about Stonewall Jackson and the Civil War. I felt I needed some background before I got into that era. I've not read ANY Civil War lit....that I can tangibly grasp with any intelligence. (Besides Gone With the Wind)....so far, it's very well researched and written....so far, a good choice for someone with little to no working knowledge of the Civil War.....

KEEP IN MIND!!! June 13th is the day that Stephen King will be in Iowa City! I will be coming for sure and I'm hoping Sammi will too......so....let's make some girlfriend plans for that night!

message 35: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
wow. you are totally blasting away with this year's list! I'm getting there just hanging in. I can't wait until Stephen King! The twins have started a book club here for the summer. There are now a total of 6 committed girls in the club. We discuss the 2016 Newbery Medal winner on the evening of the 31st. It's super easy (only 32 pages) so this will give them all a chance to decide what it's all about and make plans for the next meet up the end of June. I'm excited to see how this goes!

Thanks, I'm trying to stay on track. This is usually where I get derailed with other books. I'm not sure that I've every actually completed this challenge, but I don't stress over it. I'd rather enjoy what I'm reading than freak out about getting derailed, but it's nice to have this much steam going into the second half of the year. :)

Anja was in a book club for two years at school, where they gave up a Friday lunch recess every month to talk about a book that they all chose to read. I hope that she'll find something to continue into seventh grade. :)

We can't wait to see you!!!

10 down as I've finished The Path of Daggers. As soon as I'm done with Ross Poldark, I'll have 11 down. I accidentally put Little Women aside, but I'll pick that one back up very soon. Book ADD!

I've done 5... I wanted to read After Alice earlier this year, but decided that I should read Alice in Wonderland first. I'm reading that now, then back to my list!

I've read 7 so far. I have to admit....this has been my toughest year for reading so far. I'm SO BUSY with SO MUCH GOING ON that I'm struggling with time to read. I make time but I'm sorely missing my binges. Right now it's what I do before going to sleep...and first thing in the morning on the glider on the porch with a cup of coffee. Getting more of a routine. I miss you guys!!! I'm determined! I will accomplish my list this year!

message 47: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

I miss you too!!!!! What do you think of a weekend in St. Louis in September? Our kids want to go to the City Museum soooo badly! We are planning to go!
