2016 Reading Challenge

I'm putting my goal at 120 books
https://www.goodreads.com/user_challe...
It's currently at zero lol!
I prefer reading dark erotic romance, but last year I've broke into paranormal. I'm very selective in my reading though. I won't read anything that doesn't appeal to me.

This year I'm going to break my m/m cherry. I've read m/m side stories from books but never as full story. I also haven't read any historical romance, so I might try that also :D

This year, just to spice up my list, I decided to try on Book Riot Challenge:

My concern would be that the first on the list is horror, a genre I avoided every year.
I haven't decided on how many I would like to attempt for this year but like Adhwa, I also intend to follow the Book Riot Read Harder challenge as well :D
Best wishes everyone for 2016!

Goodluck everyone for your reading challenge!

Might not be a lot compared to avid readers here, but still progress aiming at consistent pace improvement :-)
I also wrote a humble post about reading faster to share with someone who asked how I'm reading: https://medium.com/@yohansen/6-tips-o...

Just like to throw one stone at two birds. it's really heaven job for a book nerd!

oooo not at the birds ... but at the books :)

Happy reading guys!

I agree with you, sometimes in the midst of fast reading we should slow down and enjoy the very journey of reading a book~

Thought of joining your group's conversation, I haven't been reading a lot of books. You guys inspire me to do differently.

Hi!
Sometimes it just take one book that speaks to you and then BAM! You can't stop lol!
What kind of genre that appeals to you?

>>> Reading is very personal. People do it for many different reasons. Some people only read while the mood strikes, while some it's a responsibility (like for bloggers/reviewers)
No matter whatever reason one reads, putting a goal is a form of personal challenge. Some people like to challenge themselves, some people don't. So everyone has his/her own reason/right to do things that works for them and make them happy ;)

I don't like reading other genres, other than what I'm used to which is romance. I tried so many times but since I have the attention span of a goldfish, I avoid them. However I do have a problem with my ever growing tbr list. I did hear somewhere of this trick where you write the title of the books you haven't read yet on a piece of paper and put it in a bowl and blindly choose one. I might try that one day.

Just like you, I too had a problem reading beyond my comfort zone (I love fantasy). I try to read others genre and it's only last for 3 days...
@Liely
Whaaat?! You're a machine hahah!
As for the blindly choosing a book, I could never do that. I have list of books I want to read, but I need to be in the mood to read a particular type of book :D So it depends on my emotional needs lol!

Same here. I noticed I read much faster when it's the 'themed reading', for example, I get curious about the topic of time and perception of time and start reading books on the subject, then get tired and read a piece of fiction and get back into the flow of to-reads.
How do you choose which book to read next?

I read almost anything except for Romance and Poetry, but I don't feel inclined to venture into those for my challenge.
Even if I am not in the mood for a specific genre, I find that when I started, I will usually be engrossed in it if the book's decent. I also supplemented some of my history reading with some board games on the same topic and that makes it interesting as they can be dry reading sometimes.
@Jian
I have commitment issue. Series scares the shit out of me. Books more than 250 pages also makes me sweat hahah!

Those tomes let me form a deeper connection to the characters as I grow very attached to them :). Having said that, the story has to have meat and not just be a 1000-page book just for the sake of having a 1000 pages.

And yes, I agree that it shouldn't be about how many books we read. Some books takes longer than others, some we read again, some is so draggy it feels like a nightmare. but I always force myself to finish. coz sometimes (not always) the ending suprises u.
2016 has started so is the new reading challenge!
How many books you pledged to read this year?
Do you plan to read the genre you prefer or try venturing into the unknown?
