YA and Beyond discussion

Besides my HP re-read, (or re-listen in this case), I also have some serious reading goals this year. 2015 was my worst year reading since I rediscovered my love of reading way back when I first read Harry Potter years and years ago. To get on track this year my goals are as follows:

1. Only read books I own in print/kindle UNLESS they are our monthly Hidden Gem reads.

2. Pick books from my GR TBR shelf FIRST (i.e. stop reading books that are not on my tbr shelf; thereby, continuing to push books back months or years that I want to read).

3. The only library books I am allowed to check out are audiobooks and even then they must be from my TBR shelf and/or part of a series I am currently reading (i.e. Winter) . The only other library books I can check out in print or ebook form are Hidden Gem reads.

4. To read over half (if not all) of the Hidden Gem books this year.

I plan to make a new TBR shelf this year so I can differentiate the TBR books I already shelved and then HOPEFULLY this will trigger me to read those first *crosses fingers*

I know this probably sounds very Type A Personality (which I very much am!) but it is a way for me to feel like I have a goal, which I generally need to motivate me in anything in life. I will however try to remember what my husband tells me all the time, " Reading is for fun Heidi. It is not supposed to be work."

I completely understand what you are saying, Heidi, and I sort of have the same kind of goals. I will let myself check out library books this year though, because a lot of series I want to finish I do not own. So in that case I think its fine for me. We'll see how I do, I'm a library addict!

And I also want to read more hidden gem books this year, and try to read some of the ones I missed last year :)

These are great goals!!! I need to aim to do the same, my to-read list has grown out of control and when I was looking through it there were so many good books I wanted to read but forgot about! It gets overwhelming and that's why we need these goals!! Good luck Heidi!!

I have started off pretty well so far. I am reading Mr. Kiss and Tell , which I own in print and am listening to Stand-Off , which has been in my 2015 tbr pile for awhile and I got from my library on audio (which I have allowed :)

Ok so far I have been sticking with my challenge.

Just finished Stand-Off from my 2015 tbr pile and really enjoyed it.

I am half way done with another book from my 2015 tbr pile Mr. Kiss and Tell.

I am also reading books from my my tbr pile Cat Sitter on a Hot Tin Roof and

If the Shoe Kills.

I also plan to start the audio of Winter, which is from my 2015 tbr list. So, I am sticking with my goal to read only books from my old tbr pile so far.

I set up a separate tbr pile so I would even tempt myself to read any new books I add until I read my old tbr pile :)

I am doing fairly well about only reading our monthly reads or books/HP books/ or books from my old TBR list. In fact, I am down to 10 books in my old TBR pile so I have every hope I can get them all read before 2017. I did read Strings and that was not on my old TBR list but I did that as a favor to David since he gave me the audiobook and I am glad to have read it so no regrets there :) Here is my list of read books from my old TBR pile:

Holy crap I have not updated this since August. Bad Heidi.

Yay! I only have two books left on by old TBR shelf so I should finish them all by the end of this year. I am also on the last HP book for my Epic HP re-read this year so that should be done too. While my total books read this year was down by a lot, I have never stopped reading so I will take that as a victory.

Wooooowww!!

Yay! I did it! I read all the books on my old TBR shelf and finished all the Harry Potter books! Yes, my total amount of reads this year was significantly lower than any other year I have had since joining GR but I finished this challenge so I feel better about that :)
