I think I've added all the books for now. I had to resist the urge to add a bunch of Stephen King, especially in the 80s, since I'm trying to read all his books. But in the end, I tried to add books that fit in that category of "I have to read it just to see what all the talk is about". I think there are just those books out there that you constantly hear about and I'd like to be part of that conversation.
It became more difficult to avoid strictly "popular books" once I hit the 2010s so hopefully it will become more clear once we hit the 2020s.
It became more difficult to avoid strictly "popular books" once I hit the 2010s so hopefully it will become more clear once we hit the 2020s.

We have several of the same books on our lists so I can't wait to hear what you think of them.
I think it's a fairly comprehensive list of the major classic and just those books that you feel like you want to read to be a part of more conversations. It's a similar feeling that I get from my 40 by 40 list so I'm sure there will be overlap but that's probably a good thing.

I did notice as I was adding my ratings that it was hard to directly compare the books to each other. For instance, I actually enjoyed the Fifty Shades series, for what it was. But I definitely wouldn't consider it anywhere near the quality of Gone with the Wind even though I rated both 5 stars.
I also think my ratings were really dependent on my age when I read them and it was interesting to see them together. I read the first two Fifty Shades books when I was about 21 and devoured them. Then I read the first one last year, at 28 and only gave it 3 stars.

My Blabbering review :
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

+1 to Tracy's rec of Evelyn Hugo.
Also, I hadn't started looking into the ATY authors but you just saved me some time since I really want to read more by Tayari Jones and Silver Sparrow is on my TBR. Who am I kidding, I'm sure I'll still do the research but that is definitely a top contender.
I'm so very behind on my reading this year and it's really about time I get my butt into gear. What's frustrating is that I actually have plenty of time to read, the "challenge" is staying awake when I have that time.
I was pretty shocked I didn't have any 2019 books read yet so I definitely need to pick that up too.

I finally went through and added tv shows to my 2019 movie challenge and filled in the movies I had forgotten.
Right now I'm only two away from finishing (grrr....) so I may go ahead and watch those so I can check off the challenge. If I honestly would have realized that I was so close, I would watched those two in 2019 so I could fully finish it within the year.
I just need:
20. A movie featuring indigenous people of a country
48. National Book Award
My list: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

My husband bought me this awesome poster for Christmas that includes 100 "Epic Reads". It uses a scratch off style to track the books as you read them. My goal is to read at least one per month (tentatively) and I've already crossed off a handful of them.

I was definitely a bit stubborn when it came to reading books when I was school and often couldn't get interested in a book if I was forced to read it. Which means I haven't read most of those books that are the typical literary classics. There's also a few that I've already read (marked with a *) that I wouldn't mind re-reading.

I was definitely a bit stubborn when it came to reading books when I was school and often couldn't get interested in a book if I was forced to read it. Which means I haven't read most of those books that are the typical literary classics. There's also a few that I've already read (marked with a *) that I wouldn't mind re-reading.
