You're evil. There's a special place in Hell reserved for book eaters, child molesters and people who talk during movies.

Hello, I am Utkarsh. I read way too many books in parallel. Also, I'm about as mainstream as it gets. And I'm a bit like Abed from Community in the sense that I see the world as a collection of movie/tv/book references.

Jaya Hi! I am Jaya. Never been able to attend any of the meets, so decided to follow the group here... Have had a personal record of reading 10 books in parallel. And once I intentionally missed my college exam, as was too much hooked to the book that I was reading.

I've been reading since I discovered Enid Blyton's Amelia Jane at age 4. I'm partial to horror, magic realism and dark humour, but I will gobble up practically anything that's well written, genre be damned.

We can't miss this opportunity to have recommendations on Swiss literature! We all know Johanna Spyri and Hermann Hesse! What else is there?

message 23: by Daniel (last edited Mar 08, 2016 08:01AM) (new)

Daniel Well, two Swiss authors who gained some world wide fame were Friedrich Dürrenmatt, best known for his absurd plays, and Max Frisch. Their most acclaimed novels and plays are quite timeless and definitely still worth reading, in particular
The Visit by Friedrich Dürrenmatt The Physicists by Friedrich Dürrenmatt Homo Faber by Max Frisch Andorra by Max Frisch

There are also a number of commendable books by contemporary Swiss authors that have been translated into English such as
Leon and Louise by Alex Capus Small World by Martin Suter The Great Gambler by Claude Cueni .

Hey! This is Mayank from Bombay... I love reading (obviously), except from erotica, romance and YA I can read pretty much anything... even the paper used for packing food.

Beside reading I like travelling in my head because in reality I rarely get holidays, I love attending concerts... I love rock and heavy metal music.

I spent most of my evening brooding over tea and cigarettes, talking about some books or movies.

message 27: by Janhavi (new)

Janhavi Hello!

I've been lurking, and reading posts on this forum for some time now .. never posted anything until now.
So this is me - Janhavi, from Mumbai, saying Hey everyone.

Loved the concept of BYOB, and would definitely love to join in whenever there is a meetup in Mumbai.

Trekking, and reading are two of my favourite-est things. Opposite ends, I know. So on a weekend you'll find me either wandering somewhere in the hills around Mumbai, or curled up with a book (and a cup of tea, with Pink Floyd playing in the background).

message 28: by Yash (new)

Yash (ysharma) | 96 comments Hi guys! Welcome to BYOB!

@Janhavi, there are regular meetups in Bombay. Check out the chapter's website. http://mumbai.bringyourownbook.org/

They have a sign up form there. There is also a facebook group that you can join.

Parikshit Sharma | 1 comments Hi, This is Parikshit from Delhi.
I have like 26 books in my 'read' bookshelf :P That's how infrequent a reader I am. But, I am trying hard to build a good reading habit. Amongst the limited set of authors I have read, I enjoy the works of Maya Angelou, Jhumpa Lahiri, Khaled Hosseini, Dan Brown and more recently Azar Nafisi. Looking forward to some amazing recommendations and stimulating discussions. Cheers!!

message 38: by Bedanta (new)

Bedanta Chakraborty | 2 comments Hi!
I am Bedanta. I am quite an introvert and also can be described as one among those people who try there best to stay out of any kind of social gathering which demands formalities and other obligations. And hence, I read books; as it opens you to an amazing and a huge world where possibitlies are many and absurdities are none.

I am extremely reserved and limited when it comes to reading books, on one hand I'd love to read books of Albert Camud or Thomas Hardy but I wouldn't want to read new Indian authors like Ravinder Singh or Chetan Bhagat, but at the same time I love Neel Mikherkee or Jhumpa Lahiri. That being said, I hope to have a beautiful time here.

message 39: by Farozan (new)

Farozan | 3 comments Hi all! I'm Farozan and have been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. I read almost all genres but have a special place for romance, paranormal, and fantasy, in no particular order.

I have attended just one BYOB meet till now (the queer literature meet last week) and had a great time! That's saying something since I'm an introvert and usually avoid large gatherings. Look forward to interesting conversations :)

message 40: by Shrimukh (new)

Shrimukh | 3 comments Hi all. I'm Shrimukh and been reading books from ages....

message 41: by Kartik (new)

Kartik Goyal | 1 comments Hi, I'm Kartik. I currently live in Delhi, I read out of compulsion to stimulate the mind. Recently started keeping a track of what and when I read, (hence active on Goodreads).
Read about BYOB in a newspaper article a few weeks ago, thought it would be a good idea to see how such a community works here.
I usually prefer to read non-fiction, specifically about new developments in various fields, though for leisure I sometimes turn to fantasy.

message 42: by Ayyorama (new)

Ayyorama | 2 comments Hello to the good folks at BYOB and everyone else!

I am from Bangalore and I was really pleased to stumble upon BYOB. I have been meaning to drum up a book club with a few friends myself but the effort has been mostly in vain. So, it was such a pleasant surprise to chance upon BYOB. I am not on facebook (Meh - and takes away from valuable reading time) but I'd love to know when the next Bangalore meet is planned.

Eagerly awaiting my first meet! Cheers.

Pallavi (versespire) | 3 comments Hi
I am Pallavi. I am a book worn as they call it. I love reading, and love collecting books. Probably will go bankrupt in future due to spending on books. I read parallely many books. My first book that I read was 'The Wizard of Oz' in class fourth and ever since I feel incomplete without having read something in the entire day.

message 45: by Rizowana (new)

Rizowana Hello! I'm Rizowana. I've been following BYOB on Facebook for a while now, but I never could get myself to attend the meets as I am a very shy person and I could never find anyone to tag along with me. I chanced upon this group today and thought I could break the ice here. :)
