So lets get talking! Anything on your mind besides the dismal move?

message 2: by Lesley (new)

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments I haven't had my books moved across, but this discussion panel seems similar, except the html bold didn't work in my last posting.. Many bugs to kill, at the start.

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments Noticed my new photo is part of my FB header ?? Also when looking at a book and wanting to purchase, it offered kobo, bookdepository but I couldn't find an amazon link..

If this is the wrong thread, please tell me.. Otherwise, I don't see a problem, but I am known as Polly.. (A Pollyanna)

I wonder if it doesn't show all the links because you are in Australia. I get Amazon, kindle, a list of stores and libraries

Group home page does look good. It's nice to see something familiar. I've been spending time updating my leafmarks shelves. Can I help you figure out how it works over there. To put it differently, could you use another administrator?

Do you think we should try to set up a crossroads group there as well?

Truthfully I couldn't even find you there are figure out how to find friends, but I didn't spend long there as I wanted to get started doing things here.

I'm JudithG over there. I'm far from an expert. I haven't really done groups at that site. I used it as a backup for my books and reviews. Which is also just about all I've done on Goodreads. I could start a Crossroads 2.0 and we could figure it out as we go. If we give a trial in both places we'll know what works best. I just don't want all the confusion to fall to you alone.

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments BnB, its the mystery of HOW they accessed my FB photo, I meant. I didn't load it.. Apart from the annoying ads, I'm loving the connections of books I think I will order.

message 9: by Lesley (new)

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments Bnb, re the list of bookshops... Every time I go on Amazon, they invite me to transfer to Amazon Oz, so that might be the solution... However I usually only use it to check before I order from my library; the reviews here on G, seem adequate, and the search for recommendations is marvellous.. I think this will suit me well. (I was even able to load a photo..) Still awaiting the arrivals of my shelf, but am sure that will come.

Diana S Everyone take it easy :) You just might like GR. I been on for a while and I love it. :D I'm also a moderator for a challenge group here on GR. So Booknblues, if there's anything I can help you with I'll be very happy too.

The categories you had on Shelfari should do just fine on GR. I'm looking forward to leaving comments on Mapping Your Reading.

One of my favourite things on GR is my Read Bookshelf.
I've listed my started and finished dates, pages I've read, rating, etc... and I love that I can view my reviews quickly. Which all comes in handy on certain challenges.
I also love that I can have a monthly tbr bookshelf and list the books I would like to read for that particular month.
Though the one thing I will truly miss is hitting the reply button and seeing all those comments on an individual thread.

Be a liitle bit patience. You may like GR after all. :D

Setting up a group is relatively easy at LM - I set up a private one-woman group to store my lists a year ago. Click on community, then click on groups, and create a group is a choice upper rightish. You "subscribe" under the logo to joinan existing group. Here is the link for the PBT group if you want to get a feel for the discussion format.

https://www.leafmarks.com/lm/#/discus...

If you click on "friends" at the top of the home page, you'll find a prompt to search for friends on the right. I'm Denizen there and changed the avatar yesterday to my Shelfari Paradise Tanager. All my friends are Shelfari people except for two, I think - PBT, Historical Fiction, and Crossroads - so just friend all of them.

I think that we will be able to set up our group quite nicely here, Diana. I know I had several days of panic and I am going to really miss Shelfari, but I think we are going to be stronger having to make changes and adjustments and actually learn some new skills.

message 19: by Diana S (new)

Diana S I'm glad you feel better about the change. :)

message 20: by Lesley (new)

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments Most of my books did come over.. 38 didn't but no matter; no time to see why. I am still trying to match up the email addresses as I still don't get the option of amazon, after I have looked up a book.. Something to do with Fb, for some unknown reason???

I will stay here; it suits me the way the recommendations work..

After the tennis (Australian Open), I will look for like minded other people.. Want to find people who like most of my favourites.

I am. I am not entirely happy about it, but I feel that we will cope quite well and maybe in the end we will like Goodreads more.

message 22: by Lesley (new)

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments I am now REALLY happy... Another group told me where to find the 'book links' tab (account settings) and just added Amazon, having to adjust from country showing as au, and changed it to usa.

sigh, all my links now enable me to move from site to site..off to watch the tennis on tv..

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments It's not a big deal, I think I need to restrict the groups/topics I get emails from, first of all, so that I never again get 41 emails..

On the plus side, something I wasted months on, is getting recognition of being an author in Shelfari, (never happened) and having an authors page instantly here on GR..

Thanks.

There is one problem; in order to join an 18 and up group over there you have to enter a FULL birthdate, which I'm uncomfortable with, even if it is kept private. I don't mind birth year as much.

Yes, I think that's exactly what I'll do, use a cyber birthdate. My children are all old enough to prove I'm over 18 (unless, of course, I had my eldest before I was born.)

mef (mefoley) | 11 comments So...hi y'all.

I requested a download of all of my Shelfari books, and separately, but the same day, requested that all my Shelfari books be moved to GoodReads.

On Jan 20, my downloaded files showed up, but I'm still waiting for my move to GoodReads. I've got 1176 books on my shelf, and I don't think they're really going to send them...

It is a good idea to wait. Mine were delivered fairly quickly, but it deleted some work that I had done on my own and removed reviews, so I was seriously bummed.

As it is I am missing about 500 books and I finally figured out I'm missing most of the 1990's, which was a long time ago, but I like having that online record. I do have record of those years on index cards in a box somewhere...

It is good to see you here mef!

Bnb, I also had to go through and alter many 'read' , books from their label of 'to be read'.. Many of the books we have in common, are showing in your list as to be read, but I feel sure some have in fact been read. Forgive me if this is NOMB..

Lesley Moseley | 717 comments This is about 'the dismal move', but as it's about me, thought this space ok. Cut/Paste.

My email reply to GR: re widget.

"Thanks for the offer of the blog 'widget'.. I still have so many repairs to my shelf, ie 3 copies of Gone Girl, and several others. The work involved in books that I had read, being shown as 'want to read', and many books NOT being transferred.
The WORST aspect of GR is the lack of thread NESTING... So many of our private club members no longer bother to post, daily.. Many say they have to spend their time also, sorting out their shelves.
Certainly there are several great new features, but the ability to find, easily, members who read MOSTLY, what I read, is still seemingly, not that efficient.
I too either get 81 emails, or none, so somehow I've upset my 'notifications', settings. "

I got that email as well. A widget is the last thing I am thinking of.

I'm still straightening shelf and may never complete it.

Also, I bought a new kindle for hubby as he has been using mine for a few cookbooks. It was a great deal much cheaper than mine which I bought several years ago but it has a lot of features that mine doesn't .

Hubby decided he didn't want to learn how to use it and offered it to me and he would take over the old one, however my books are on my old one so I have to move them all. More tedious time consuming stuff.
