-Axell Florent came for Davos, and when he left he took the torch away, leaving his brother Alester in the dark. How cruel though. Stannis called Davos, and he still wants to kill Melisandre. Axell can now see in flames, and told Davos he’ll betray Stannis at some point, and he’ll sit the Iron Throne. I forgot he saw Davos betraying Stannis. I try to pay attention to what they see in flames, but I am kinda on the edge about it. Axell, who I forgot was such a bitch, tells Davos to recommend him as Hand, or he’ll kill him. Axell and Salladhor had a plan, and Davos would get a ship if Axell was named Hand. I don’t like this man at all.
-Stannis looks like shit, lol, ten years older and he lost weight. Losing hit him really hard though. He asked Davos what was the penalty for treason, and Davos answered it was death. Interesting Stannis said he was not cruel, he was following the law, like he needed to justify his actions. They were talking about Alester of course.
-Stannis then moves to talk about Robert, and how he inspired loyalty even in his foes, who some ended up being friends. Stannis could never do this, and he was just a few lords left after he lost. Lord Estermont, his mother’s father who I forgot was even alive, bent the knew to Joffrey. How old is he though? It’s not like Stannis is five.
-So, Axell’s plan was to storm Claw Isle, where Celtigar, one of his bannerman who bent the knee to Joffrey lived. Axell wanted to burn the castle and kill the people. Stannis asks of Davos’ opinion, who speaks honestly and says what Axell planned to was a folly and a coward thing to do. He is right, the place was defended by women, children and old men. Celtigar bent the knee probably because he just wanted to live what he had left in his castle, and he did went when Stannis called. Then Stannis said he should’ve stayed loyal, and Davos replies saying he didn’t do so when Robert was at war with Aerys. Axell said it was treason and took his knife out, but Stannis sent him out and tells his to call Melisandre. Interesting he said it was a hard decision, choosing between his brother or his king. *SPOILERS FOR UPCOMING CHAPTERS IN A STORM OF SWORDS* (view spoiler)[It’s what Jaime did! Though he chose between his father and king, he did what Stannis did and chose blood over honor. I wonder how Stannis would react to that if he knew. (hide spoiler)].
-Stannis says the throne was his by law, because he was Robert’s heir. I can believe that, he was fighting because he saw it as his duty and because the law said so. I forgot Barristan said the rot in Aerys’ reign began with Varys. Stannis thinks he shouldn’t have been forgiven, and Jaime should have ended up in the Wall like Ned said. I wonder why Jon Arryn wanted Jaime to stay.
-Stannis asks why Davos wants to kill Melisandre, and when he answers because she burnt her son basically, Stannis says those weren’t her flames. He also said she told him to speak to Renly, and stopped Axell from burning him. Still, she did a lot of bad things, and probably didn’t want Davos to burn because she knew how loyal he is. Stannis comments Edric was sick, so the Maester was leeching him. Robert and Renly didn’t care much about the boy, and Stannis seems kind of hurt the castellan thought he would hurt the boy. *SPOILERS FOR UPCOMING CHAPTERS OF A STORM OF SWORDS* (view spoiler)[Although at one point, if I remember correctly, Stannis meant to burn the kid. I do remember Davos got him out, but I don’t remember if Stannis said he wanted to burn him, or if Davos was just afraid. (hide spoiler)].
-Stannis says he wants to bring peace to Westeros, and doesn’t see it as seven different parts. He made Davos knelt, and he got up being a lord and Stannis’ Hand. Davos says he is lowborn, can’t read nor write and there are better people for the job. Stannis said there is no one better, and I agree. He made an excellent choice. Stannis told Davos he wanted him by his side on battle, and when Davos said they don’t have the men, Melisandre said they plan to fight the great battle. She said soon the cold would be there, as well as the night that never ends. She seems aware of what happened in the north. Stannis saw it in the flames as well, which makes Davos thinking it a little bit more, since Stannis doesn’t lie or make jokes. Melisandre says Stannis is the chosen of R’hllor, the prince that was promised. I forgot Stannis thought his brothers were better options. But she says he is a “righteous man,” and that’s enough apparently.
-Melisandre has the leeches with Edric’s blood, king’s blood. She is very cryptic and says it will and won’t work. The truth is hard to see in the flames, and she is sure by giving her Edric, it will work. She could wake the stone dragon, but Stannis refuses, and says the dragons are done. We know they’re not though, but they weren’t sculpted in stone though. Stannis says the kid is innocent, and he is. I don’t know why she tried to blame the kid about things that made no sense at all. She throws the three fat, disgusting, dark and full of blood leeches to the flames, one by one. Stannis names the usurpers: Joffrey Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy and Robb Stark. Interesting Stannis studied the last leech before saying Robb’s name. It could be nothing, but I found it interesting.
