1:1 In the (a) beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The Argument - Moses in effect declares three things, which are in this book chiefly to be considered: First, that the world and all things in it were created by God, and to praise his Name for the infinite graces, with which he had endued him, fell willingly from God through disobedience, who yet for his own mercies sake restored him to life, and confirmed him in the same by his promise of Christ to come, by whom he should overcome Satan, death and hell. Secondly, that the wicked, unmindful of God's most excellent benefits, remained still in their wickedness, and so falling most horribly from sin to sin, provoked God (who by his preachers called them continually to repentance) at length to destroy the whole world. Thirdly, he assures us by the examples of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the rest of the patriarchs, that his mercies never fail those whom he chooses to be his Church, and to profess his Name in earth, but in all their afflictions and persecutions he assists them, sends comfort, and delivers them, so that the beginning, increase, preservation and success of it might be attributed to God only. Moses shows by the examples of Cain, Ishmael, Esau and others, who were noble in man's judgment, that this Church depends not on the estimation and nobility of the world: and also by the fewness of those, who have at all times worshipped him purely according to his word that it stands not in the multitude, but in the poor and despised, in the small flock and little number, that man in his wisdom might be confounded, and the name of God praised forever.
(a) First of all, and before any creature was, God made heaven and earth out of nothing.

Not yet sure in what version I'll read, but I'm ready. :)
I'll just observe for a day or two before joining in the discussion to see how the discussion works. :)
One thing to keep in mind, Genesis covers more history than all the other books in the Bible combined. Pretty amazing, eh? ((; Hehe

That is really amazing! And also, I really think it's amazing that God created our whole world in just seven days ☺️

That's true.
The story of creation is thrilling. God gives us language. He names the sky, night and day. He is creating the world and giving us the words to describe it, too.
@Rachel- Amen :D I can't even learn a language in seven days, but hey, God made one ;D
@Christie- So true!!! It is so amazing :)))
@James- Hmmm... Wow, that's deep!! I've never thought of that... What's your theory? O don't believe I actually have one on the topic xO xD

--When it says God created the earth the words "Us" and "Our" are also used--a confirmation of the Trinity.
--The earth was created before the sun, moon, and stars.
--Some Christians try to fit millions of years and macro-evolution into the Bible by saying that the word "day" (Hebrew: yom) means millions of years, because "day" is sometimes used to refer to time periods or eras. The problem is that when "day" is referring to literal 24-hour day it it can be defined as that by mention of evening and morning or night or a number (e.g fourth day). We see many of the verses in this chapter mention evening, morning, and, night, so we can can conclude it's not talking about long time periods.
So yeah, what are your guys' thoughts?

Great thought's, Essy!
-Apparently Jewish people count the days from the time that sun sets down - in the other words to say as it is written in Genesis 1 - Heb. And the evening was, and the morning was.
-I am amazed, how God created everything by ''Speaking a Word''. It shows how powerful words are that we speak. And we are created in the image of the almighty God. It is difficult to imagine, but the thought of it gives me a joy and assurance, that God is a loving Father.
-I've read many time Genesis, but it only today I saw it in my imagination how wonderful the creation was. Only 7en days... All things are possible with God.. :)
@Elvina- Oh yes, also touching points there! It is so amazing xD First chapter really starts off with a bang!! Terrific ((:
@Si- Oh, what do you mean? Our commentary or something else? (:

1:26 And God said, (s) Let us make man in our (t) image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
(s) God commanded the water and the earth to bring forth other creatures: but of man he says, "Let us make..." signifying that God takes counsel with his wisdom and virtue purposing to make an excellent work above all the rest of his creation. (t) This image and likeness of God in man is expounded in Eph 4:24 where it is written that man was created after God in righteousness and true holiness meaning by these two words, all perfection, as wisdom, truth, innocency, power, etc.

2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the (a) host of them.
(a) That is, the innumerable abundance of creatures in heaven and earth.
1599 Geneva Bible Notes:
2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he (b) rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
(b) For he had now finished his creation, but his providence still watches over his creatures and governs them.
@Timothy- Amen!! Great!!
@Si, I readily agree!
@James- Oh, can you explain, I'm not sure I follow. Sorry, I'm kinda slow this morning xP

People, that cannot understand and do not believe that God has created everything in 7 days, do try explane "rational" way. It just they are trying to understand everything from human perspective.

The evening and the morning. . .equals nychthemeron - one day one night or twenty-four hours. God's Word saith it, I believe it, as do ye! Thank thee for sharing this, Mary and Evina! :)
