Michelle Howard's Honor Bound

http://www.amazon.com/Honor-Bound-War...

Set in the times of Mahabharata, this is a tale of a religion invading a civilization and an ensuing clash of two heroines! An assertive and idealistic Princess Abhaya meets the enigmatic Krishna Vaasudeva. A bereaved Dhatri, pursued by her own family is saved by Lord Bhauma. When subverted religion becomes a tool in the hands of power thirsty and strikes Bharatavarsha, the land of Aryas, Abhaya finds herself face to face with the impending doom.
“Can we combat the fear with faith? Can we keep our faith undeterred when the last traces of hope melt away? Can we receive blame and adulation, accept them and yet not give in to them?”

The cover features a woman with what looks like a sword, so I'm guessing that she could be accurately called an "action heroine?"
The blurb features this quote: "An excitingly different take on one of the myriad legends celebrating the light vs darkness matrix that defines Diwali. The sparkling narration adds new facets to the compelling tale of the killing of the demon, Narakasur"
Question, does a person with zero familiarity with the historical, cultural and religious traditions from which the novel springs have a reasonable chance of appreciating the story?

Thanks so much for the wishes and the message.
Well, let me be frank. I tried my best to keep the story independent of the scriptural background. But I am still unaware of how international readers would feel about my writing. (I would love to learn to hone my writing so that it delights everyone).
Till now my readers are mostly Indian. I did get a positive review from an Israeli reader. Would love to have more feedback from non-Indian readers about the story. As they say, something out of heart should be able to connect to hearts and I wrote from my heart. :-) If you have a KU subscription, please do give it a try and let me know.

I am having a hard time. Even simple references, such as those to Krishna, must stir up many, many thoughts in your readers familiar with Hindu traditions. For me, a recognition that Krishna is a reference to a God-form, perhaps with an element of reincarnation, (correct, I hope?) is the sum of my knowledge.
Which doesn't make your writing or novel any lesser; merely, it reflects my lack of knowledge of almost anything about one of the world's major religions, which is, as the slang cliché goes: "My bad."
My best friend (other than my wife) is a professor of religion. I'm going to get her to prescribe me a book or two to help brush away some of my ignorance.
With appreciation, Jon

Girl From Above: Betrayal

Toby Neal's Twisted Vine.
The blurb: "A USA Today bestselling author delivers a riveting mystery set on the lush islands of Hawaii: When Special Agent Lei Texeira begins investigating a rash of mysterious deaths, she stirs up a nest of deceit and danger. Paradise has a shadowy underbelly… "
I haven't read it.

The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax,

https://www.amazon.com/Unexpected-Mrs...
Not to long ago someone (Werner? David?) was enthusiastic about this older novel. The sample I looked at then seemed quite readable, so I've now bought it.

If you have audible, and purchase the book, even on KU, you can get the audio version for $1.99 or $2.99, which is a bargain for an audio book.

"The Gateway is open..."
These cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality.
Jess' life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood. But now her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming together: her mother gone—dead under mysterious circumstances; her life uprooted to stay with estranged relatives she’s never met; and there’s something odd about some of the people she’s been meeting at school:
They’re dead.
Aided by Tia, her neurotic roommate, and Dr. David Pierce, a ghost-hunting professor, Jess must unravel the mystery behind her hauntings. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger shadows her every move. An ancient secret, long-buried, is about to claw its way to the surface, and nothing can prepare Jess for one terrifying truth...her encounters with the world of the dead are only just beginning

Blurb - A fabled wall, marking the territory of the werewolves and adorned with the severed skull of a once great alpha, stands between Natalya and her prey.
When she finds the body of Anesa, her beloved mentor, she is determined to hunt down the vampire responsible. Crossing the border into Claw Haven to follow him is sacrilege though, and the undead werewolves whose skeletal bodies wane and wax with the moon are more terrifying than the vampire she seeks. But there she meets Voren, a werewolf who is a living contradiction to everything she has been led to believe.
Her journey into the lives of the pack entwines her and Voren's fates with that of a master vampire's: Arkadith. Defeating him may lift Voren's curse and bring peace to Valwood and Claw Haven, but Arkadith is determined to bring an end to this vampire huntress as well...
