The Trouble with Goats and Sheep
question
Confusion with part of the ending - could someone clarify?

I really enjoyed this, but I was confused by the ending and the conversation between Mrs Forbes and Mrs Daikin re. the cat running away due to the taxi on the night of the fire - it alludes (or I'm just not getting it) that Mrs Bishop didn't die??? - But I thought it was very clear that at the beginning of the story that she did..... or was Mrs Forbes talking about her cat??? Confused by this bit - if someone could explain to me, I would really appreciate it.

I am not sure about what Dorothy then says to Sheila about memories only being forgotten when someone dies, but it sort of feels like a threat to me.... if anyone else can add what they think, that would be good!

I missed a few details along the way but the way I read it was that Mrs Forbes started the fire (it's something to do with the dish towels being folded) and the talk of the taxi was that she knew Mrs Bishop was in the house at the time but she also thought Walter was there. That's pretty explicitly stated.
