Second Half of the 20th Century discussion

I think it would it would be a good idea to think of themes of events or people during the late 20th century. I’ll start.

Mod’s
Hippies
Beat Generation
Cold War

Wow so many changes during those times, the music, television, foods[tv dinners,lol!] clothes[bell bottom pants,mini skirts] the industrial age. Twiggy, Sonny & Cher, The Beatles who I never cared for. I preferred Herman's Hermits, Motown artists, and others much more.

My old supervisor didn’t care much of The Beatles either. He said he preferred the Monkees to The Beatles and he wasn’t big on pop music. I was born during the The Beatles heyday. My dad said I was born with a full head of hair and the nurses would say I looked like one of The Beatles. I remember the Sonny & Cher show and wearing bell bottoms. Not my favorite fashion. I prefer the 60’s Mod style.

Oh yes, the Mod style was very neat! I also loved when teens wore the corduroy berets with bills.

Some ideas I've have for themes.

Books that are guilty pleasures, such as, Love Story or
Valley of the Dolls.

Books that took place in the future that was occurred in the 2nd half of the 20th century, such as, 1984 or Carrie.

Books that dealing with technology, even though that technology would be outdated by now.

Would like them all except 'Love Story', won't touch the book or the film, because I avoid tear-jerkers,lol!

I didn't like the little bit of Valley of the Dolls that I snuck a look at when young and I doubt I'd enjoy it now. Love Story I would read. Unlike C, I can both stand and enjoy tear-jerkers. Think Nicholas Sparks.

I wonder if rereading 1984 would be "good for me" the way leafy greens are?

One theme could be equal rights/civil rights, either in fiction or non-fiction. Another could be now famous/celebrated women authors whose first book was published in _____. Jane Smiley, Toni Morrison, Judy Blume, the list is long. We would read that first book.

All great ideas! I wish there would be more people in the group who would come up with more nominations. Maybe in time. I really like the idea of famous/celebrate women authors first book. I wish I had heard this idea for August nominations.

I would like a short story theme. But I think more people are needed.
