Shalini Das The ending was no doubt a bit abrupt, surprising and confusing but there are major hints that Clarice and Lecter are leading the life of a normal couple. Clarice's note to Mapp and her reaction after Crawford's death nails it in a way that Clarice still with holds the major events and experiences of her past life, but at the same time she is content with her present life. I think that Lecter has somehow manipulated her personality by using psychotic drugs, but at Buenos Aries it's clearly stated that Hannibal has not been using drugs or hypnosis on Clarice lately. Lecter on the other hand is happy & in his own way in "love" with Clarice. His obsession of morphing Clarice into Misha-reborn is compeletely at bay as it's written that Hannibal has not dreamt of Mischa for months. They are making love, visiting opera houses, living in a mansion with servents like any other rich and high-profile couple in town.
This might sound silly but I think the end of the novel clearly states thats salvation lies in finding a person whom we can call a "soulmate" and Lecter was sucessful in finding that soulmate in Starling, though his ways might be enough for give us cringes but thats the truth of it!

Jesse Freedom You not the only one. Well I agree with Jack that their relationship is not Beauty and the Beast, they got together and it did not seem that way at all. I love it!

Simin Yadegar I love it too
