Our April group read is Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. All I know about this is that my library has a very long waiting list for it - has anybody started it yet?

Amanda (tnbooklover) I'll be listening to the audio but I won't be starting for a week or so. I'm excited for this one. It's been recommended highly to me by several trusted book friends.

I'm hoping to get a copy in the next few days.

message 4: by Kay (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kay I read this last month and am excited to talk about it. Could not make up my mind whether I liked it or not while reading it but have not stopped thinking about it since then.

I just now picked this up, but then decided I needed something lighter after Half of a Yellow Sun. So I'll try again in a few days. (Feeling that end of the month squeeze, will I get it all in?!)

Taylor (seffietay) My copy is on it's way! I'm trying to keep up with all the group reads this year haha

Vanessa | 11 comments I have finished it, but it's one of those times that I have a hard time deciding what to say about it. I think I don't have very strong feelings about it either way.

So that kind of makes it sound like it was a waste of time?...

Vanessa | 11 comments I might have to admit that it was for me. I sat here for a few minutes writing something out, but it was pretty obvious that I was pulling it out of my bum, so I gave it up. Based off of the reviews, a lot of people had very strong feelings about it, but it left me cold.

Sorry!

Kay I had mixed feelings about it at the beginning and was a little annoyed about the characters. But it still left me thinking about what relationships between people are/can be - is it possible to know your partner fully? What does "fully" even mean? Can you have a good marriage without knowing everything about your partner? Would that be a 'good' marriage? And more importantly, how much do you sacrifice for that relationship? In this book, Mathilde was sacrificing a lot for her husband, but she did it willingly and with real love for him - even if their relationship looked manipulative from both sides. So, I guess more questions than answers, but I think that was the point of the story anyway..

Taylor (seffietay) I'm finally working away at this one, a little past the 25% mark. So far it's sort of slow going... It started out interesting but it's dragging a bit for me now. Everything I've heard about this book though says that everything changes at the halfway mark, so I'm excited to see where it's going. The characters are well developed but it's making some big leaps along the timeline, I suppose if it's not necessary to detail all the 17 years that's ok but it does seem to be told at simultaneously an accelerated pace and a painfully slow one. Anyone else reading this one late like me?
