I thought I'd post this here, since Daffodil taught me the trick. (Thanks, Daffodil!) I posted this in another group, for members who are looking for our Sub-Genre of the Month.

How to Locate a Specific Book on a Shelf (or to check if it's there):

There's a quicker way to look up if a you want to know if a book you want to read it 'tagged' on a certain shelf. I learned it in SOS. (Thanks, Daffodil!) Her comment is here. I've been thinking about typing it up for "GoodReads How To..." - but haven't gotten around to it yet. Here's a quickie pic, though.

Using Claimed for the example, found here on Dystopian Romance.



Pretty fast, once you do it a few time. Save TONS of time wading though each page of a shelf that has 20,000 posts.

Reserved.

i.e. go to desired book's page...then:


change: ... "book/show" ... to ... "shelf/users" ...

then add: ... "?shelf=your desired shelf" ... to the end ...

then: ... hit CR/Enter ...

You'll get either ... an error message =[ ... or (hopefully) ... a page showing everyone who's tagged it as your desired shelf ... :-P ... Huzzah!!!

This is how books are found that have been tagged as few times as once out of thousands ...

As Loridae mentioned, sadly b/c of GR changes, we can no longer search for a specific book on a specific shelf the ways listed above. I've double checked and neither works any longer. 😔

I've been scouring through pages on google trying to find another way to do so, but for now, the best I can suggest is:

- Go to the book page
- If the shelf you're searching for not shown in the small list shown, click on "see top shelves" (right side bar)
      ( example: Moon Called https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve... )
- Then, use your browser's "find on page" feature and scroll thru the pages (and pages and pages... 😩)

Sorry! I'll keep looking for another way. Lemme know if you find something that works.

I actually feel like that every day, despite the fact that I'm 'addicted' and love it as much as I get frustrated by it.

I found a way to view shelves/genres for a book that doesn’t have any listed on the book’s page.

Go to book page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/*show/... (this one has shelf/genre list, but ignore those for this example)

Change SHOW in the web address to SHELVES and it’ll take you to the book’s top shelves list
