Elspeth Hall (elspeth_grace) | 11 comments Hi what are the rules for if there is a major typo/formatting error ??? The sort of thing that really disrupts the reader but could be ironed out by resubmitting the book to Amazon? Do we mention it on the review or do we notify the author? Traditionally such mistakes would be mentioned but that's because of fixed print runs. In the age of POD I feel it would be unfair to rate down a book for something that would not crop up in future copies. On the other hand it is there when it should have been dealt with in the editing stage
(I did give book to hubby without telling him what to look for and he spotted it too)

Definitely contact the author about the problem, so that he or she can have it fixed.

Generally, I do not comment on formatting errors, since they seldom are more than a small annoyance in reading a book. If there are only a few typos, I do not consider that worth noting, either. If there are a lot of typos, this reflects on the quality of the editing, and I would note it in the review.

Reviews are for potential readers not the author. A rule of thumb is that, if a defect with a book (whether technical, logical, or conceptual) impacts the value or readability of the work, it should be noted in the review.

Elspeth Hall (elspeth_grace) | 11 comments Thanks. I don't normally comment on typos. I recently bought a book on Amazon which shall remain nameless and several paragraphs have been duplicated. I shall try to contact the author and make a note on the review. Thanks again for the advice. I knew you guys would be able to point me in the right direction.
