M. I finished reading ACOMAF today and I'm suffering from epic-book withdrawals. I don't think I can pick up just any book after spending 2 days with those characters and their world. So my question is, what to read after ACOMAF? It needs to epic as well and if it's a series, completed. I can't take another series that I have to wait for the conclusion.
Suggestions, please.

Nikita I'm currently still reading Mist & Fury but afterwards I plan on reading the Dresden Files on recommendation by family and see if I like it. If not, I plan on re-reading some old favorites like Vampire Academy or Shadowhunters. Or I'll start to read Hush, Hush and Fallen.

You can try some of these. I loved them.
Tiger's Curse
Talon
Everneath
Angelfall

Mikaela Give Witches of Eileanan a read if you haven't before! Or for a standalone Uprooted is also similar and great :)

WinterRose Game of Thrones is pretty epic lol.

I'm currently reading the Falling Kingdoms trilogy. Not epic, but decent. (I second Angelfall up there. Really good book.)

Rachel Smith poison study series
red queen (EPIC! only 2 books are out though :(
throne of glass series (still waiting on the final book but there's a good 3 or 4 already out)

Cici Blood of Eden
Red queen
Throne of glass(if you haven't already)
Twilight?(it's good but this competely put it in the corner of shame(well maybe not, it was a pretty amazing book, nevertheless the ACOTAR is that much better))
Selections (a whole different kind of series)
Every other day
Tigers curse
Sweet venom

Codi Hart I would suggest
The Final Empire
The Crown's Game
The Knife of Never Letting Go (Science fiction but still amazing)
The Diviners
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Slow, but really interesting)
Three Dark Crowns

All of these, unless stated, are fantasy books which really helped me get over slumps and engrossed me in their worlds.

Julia Hey i totally get how you feel. ACOMF destroyed me for months. And to this day I sneak little re-reads because I love it so much. But some of the amazing books that pulled me out of my slump were:
1. Illuminae - such a different style from Maas but you will fall in love.
2. The Raven Boys series- can't put enough praise on the originality and quirkiness and magic of this series. highly recommend.
3. Heartless- all in all an eh read but you won't believe how easy it is to fall for the court jester. Just trust me, there are other men besides Rhys.
4. Honestly just re-read ACOMF until ur more of an emotional mess than you were the first time...

Hope I helped and good luck to anyone in a similar position!! <3

Susann After spending almost three months in a book hangover from ACOMAF and having reread it 4 times now I can say that there is probably never going to be a book again out there that can rival it...
But some do come really close:
1. Heartless by Marissa Meyer and while you're at it read the Lunar Chronicles too - just wooooow *---*
2. The Young Elites Series - The story and the protagonist Adelina are so beautifully written and I like her character development so freaking much :o
3. Cruel Beauty, Crimson Bound and Gilded Ashes are quick and amazing reads too <3
4. Red Queen? Shatter me? The Mortal Instruments/ The Infernal Devices? Mara Dyer? (I've already read them way before ACOMAF but in case some of you haven't yet, please do read them I think they're essential :D )

emily I'm in the same situation and just reread it, but I've been reading Grave Mercy which is pretty good. I would also recommend the Grisha Trilogy or Six of Crows. I really enjoyed Passenger by Alexandra Bracken but that's more sci fi but still really good.

Rhysand I've reread it a hundred times and go over my favourite scenes ever other day. Grave Mercy is good and so is Dark Triumph( the second book in the series). The Grisha Trilogy was really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend them!

Rhysand I've read almost all of the Mortal Instruments set except the last one- yeah, they are really good. I've also been recommended the Six of Crosw series tons of times. I must read them.

Alanna ACOMAF is the worst of book hangovers! For book recommendations, I would definitely recommend: the Six of Crows Duology, The Grisha Trilogy (both Leigh Bardugo), The Falconer and The Vanishing Throne (both Elizabeth May), The Witchlands Series (Susan Dennard), The Wrath and the Dawn Duology (Renne Ahdieh) and of course, if you haven't already read it, The Throne of Glass Series (also by Sarah J Maas).

In addition, I have spent a lot of time reading ACOMAF fanfics - there's quite a few great ones out there! (For example: http://sarahviehmann.tumblr.com/tagge...)

Rhysand I've read the Throne of Glass series an the Grisha trilogy. I'm always being recommended Six of Crows- I need to read it.

Alanna Six and Crows and Crooked Kingdom were great reads! Have you read the Witchlands Series (Truthwitch and Windwitch) yet? I loved them, and found the author's method of storytelling to be somewhat similar to SJM.

Rhysand I can't say I have but if the writing style I similar

Rhysand Please ignore that

Rhysand I will try and find it. Anything like Sarah J.Mass is my type of book.

Brand Read Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas if for some reason you haven't read it already.
Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher is another to read. Nobody reads it but its soooo amazing and really similar in set up to Throne of Glass, and the writing and story is so amazing. I swear i am the only person to have ever read theses books but more people need to read it especially if you are a Sarah J Mass fan, the intricacy of the plot that Jim Butcher writes reminded me so much of Sarah.
I also just finished a Rebel in the Sands which was absolutely fantastic.
Other top books i would recommend:
-Six of Crows (really fun and sarcastic characters, who doesn't love that).
-Shatter me series (I was really on the fence about reading it but fell in love with it immediately, I also felt the character development was done so well).
-The Kiss of deception (had the biggest plot twist i have ever read but not one that will rip your heart apart just a real mind fuck).
- Passenger by Alex Bracken (usually not a time travel person but this book made me in love with it).
-Prince of Wolves is a good book (and i think its a free ebook off amazon) but after like the third book it starts going down hill so its more of a just for fun quick read.
-An Ember in the Ashes is also fabulous I always wait for a weekend to read the books when they come out because i just cant ever seem to put the book down.
-Fangirl. I tend to love my sword fighting, good guys winning books so i was nervous to read something so different from what i usually read but i am so glad i did. This book was so cute, and i saw myself in nerdy antisocial Cath to at times.
if your want more info on any book or want other recommendation i will be happy to supply you with it. And if based on my list you have any recommendations i would LOVE to hear them!

I am completed in this same position! I still find some time for some rereads. I just cannot move past Rhys. I tried to read Throne of Glass and I got super bored in the 4th book and haven't been able to finish it. I am going to try to finish it down the road, maybe after the last book comes out.
I absolutely loved the Grisha series but didn't have any issues moving past it at all. Not like this.
I am going to give Heartless by Marissa Meyer a try. I like that it is only one book so I will finish it! And let's be honest, I just need to find a way to move past Rhys, so I like that this has a great male romance character as well.
Hopefully this will get me out of my funk!

brittany Griffin Any new recommendations ive looked through all of these comments and am not convinced any of these books are going to come close to how good ACOTAR series is please help. I challenge someone to suggest a series that is better that acotar!?

message 23: by Tami (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tami Vogel The Fever series? That's the only series that's come close to these books for me. And I didn't read the spinoff series, just the main Fever one. I'm amazed to not see the series listed here...

The Grave Mercy series is really quite good though. I'd also highly recommend it but it's not going to take the place of this one. 😶

I enjoyed Raven Boys series until the last two books, then it just disintegrated for me.

Good luck! (I just finished ACOMAF so I'm totally comprehending your frustrations!)

I really didnt think someone would reply! Your awesome thank you! Ive spent a couple days searching for anything to get me out of this funk. I just looked up the fever series idk how i didnt come across that im going to give it a try! What is the spinoff series i hope i got the correct first book. If you have any other suggestions let me know im open to anything that will steal my heart like ACOTAR series did i mean it had everything. Romance, action, sex, i seriously felt like i could have passed out a few times during acomaf 🙈 So heart broken its over

message 25: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Leon No seriously give the Shatter Me series a chance! As a picky reader myself, who loved ACOMAF and has trouble finding a great read after just an amazing book, give it a try :-) and Tahereh Mafi added another epic book to the series so YAY! Check it out, Brittany

Katie Read the Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows Duology!!!!!!! Really good, especially Six of Crows. Also The Cruel Prince is kind of similar to ACOTAR. Good luck and happy reading!

I would avoid the Cruel Prince. Just like with an actual hangover, getting hooked on another book that will crush your heart in to little-bitty pieces is NOT THE ANSWER.

message 28: by Basic Reader (last edited Apr 20, 2018 12:49PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Basic Reader I have recently read Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa and it really has reminded me of ACOMAF. Also her recently released book Pestilence also has some ACOMAF vibes. Try them and who knows, maybe you will like them ;))

netty I agree--the Bargainner and Rhapsodic by Thalassa definitely have an ACOMAF feel to them. Tarien Soul is kind of similar but... more redundancy--less streamlined.

message 30: by Gabi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gabi Kinkead I would rather read A court of thorns and roses series than the 50 shades of grey series!!!!!

message 31: by Miki (new) - rated it 5 stars

Miki Jackson What do you think about the newest addition to the series;
"A Court of Frost and Starlight"

Tiffany I wonder why nobody ever mentions The Seven Realms series and it's sequel series, The Shattered Realms series. I thought those were amazing reads.
Thankfully, I'm reading ACOMAF right now and am able to read ACOWAR right after, as I bought the trilogy all at once. (Regretting that I didn't buy ACOFAS at the same time...I didn't want to make the same mistake I did with Throne of Glass and buy all the books at once, only to discover that I HATED that series. Not because of SJM's writing itself, obviously, but because I couldn't stomach 98% of the characters and by book 4, I was ready to kill everyone myself)

I will always, ALWAYS recommend A Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones) because it is one of the most epic stories I've read, but you definitely have to have a lot of patience as well as a really good memory for hundreds of characters, houses, locations and back story as well. If you can't keep up with everything, it's kind of pointless because you lose the importance of a detail here or a moment there.

I think in terms of epic-ness, I'd also recommend The Dark Artifices (The latest Shadowhunters series) because that one has that similar feel of romance and darkness. (Sorry, Clace, but you bore me and you are definitely not as good as the ships that sailed after you. ;-))

Rebecca Another rec for the Fever Series here, funny story since I was always looking for something similar to the Fever series and this one was rec'd to me - and so far so good! I'm a sucker for the long relationship building in both of these and always looking for anything similar.

brittany Griffin Any new recommendations for this mostly something closely related to the romance and epic storyline? I really like the fever series but am stuck in the 5th book getting bored with it any recommenations would be great?

Tiffany brittany wrote: "Any new recommendations for this mostly something closely related to the romance and epic storyline? I really like the fever series but am stuck in the 5th book getting bored with it any recommenat..."

The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy (plus one novella) by Rae Carson is a great read. The main character really grows into herself and gains confidence throughout the series in such a realistic and beautiful way. It's not epic in the normal sense, as she's not a fighter, but she's intelligent and her strength lies in that. (There are still plenty of action sequences and romance though, don't let that put you off and I found it to be an epic read.)

The Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross is also a different style and a great read. Especially if you're into Victorian Era steampunk, with elements from classic stories mixed in. (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as one example.)

Sarah.H.L After ACOMAF ofcorse you read ACOWAR but beyond that you just have to get used to disapointment.

Grace Natalie wrote: "No seriously give the Shatter Me series a chance! As a picky reader myself, who loved ACOMAF and has trouble finding a great read after just an amazing book, give it a try :-) and Tahereh Mafi adde..."

is the shatter me series as explicit as acomaf?? beacause it looks pretty PG

Aishwari Krishna Genuinely speaking, I don't think I'll ever move on from ACOMAF/ACOWAR. Maybe I'll just re-read them until I get tired of them (okay, let's be real, that'll never happen.) There is not a single couple who comes even close to Feysand and I just... the characters, the setting. Unparalleled.

message 39: by Sophie (new) - added it

Sophie Royle The Illuminae files 100%!!!! awesome series. Throne of glass if you haven't already. Also Trylle is really good

Peggy The Blade and Rose series is awesome!! And the new book #5 I think comes out in March!!

brittany Griffin Need more recommendations you guys!? Helpp i looked into the blade and rose series is there enough romance in it for me I worried for that

brittany Griffin Im looking for like hot romance here too people like ACOMAF i looked into alot of these recomendations and they all look great but to PG how isnt there anything out there comparable to sarahs books 😩

Peggy Blade and rose series is def not PG.

That was literally me, I would say read the other series from Sarah J. Maas but I'm guessing you have already read that (if not FOR SURE READ IT).

Other books suggestions are:
The selection series by Kieraa Cass
Fall away series by Penolepe Douglas
Birthday GIrl by ^
Breathless series by Maya Banks
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Peggy Wraith kings is awesome! I wasn’t sure I would like it but the love story and well done sex scenes are very much feysand. Also the dark elves spin off of blade and rose was good! I was super sad it was over and it’s just one book so far but the love story is different but has the charming banter or Rhys and Feyre. Passionate and sexy.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

YOU SHOULD READ A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY!!!

There is a Character Named Grey Who is Like a Gentleman. He Has MORE Chemistry with The Heroine

There is Also a Character Named Rhen Who is Behaving Like Tamlin in ACOTAR. He is The Beast in This Story

Grace brittany wrote: "Im looking for like hot romance here too people like ACOMAF i looked into alot of these recomendations and they all look great but to PG how isnt there anything out there comparable to sarahs books 😩"

i know exactly what you mean, I've been on the hunt for something similar to acotar but all the suggestions never end up being steamy enough but i found a new release book that is exactly what we've been looking for! kingdom of exiles by maxym martineau is a steamy (!!) fantasy series with a love interest who is very similar to rhysand, also the writing is excellent - especially since the romance genre has some average writing sometimes.

Corrin I have already read the Red Queen series and waiting for my library to get Throne of Glass. And I am not interested in Game of Thrones.

Please, I need recommendations of fantasy books with 19/20 year olds as the main characters. I'm sick of reading about teenagers!!

Grace some fantasy books with 18+ aged main characters are:
- Kingdom of Exiles by Maxim M. Martineau
- Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa
- A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet
- Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet (this one is space/sci-fi)

Grace brittany wrote: "Im looking for like hot romance here too people like ACOMAF i looked into alot of these recomendations and they all look great but to PG how isnt there anything out there comparable to sarahs books 😩"

i know exactly what you mean! the reason i loved acomaf was for the more explicit content, so these books are exactly what you're looking for i think!! They all contain explicit content in their romances but still have that fantasy element:
- Rhapsodic (The Bargainer Series) by Laura Thalassa - this is the closest to acomaf i've ever found, in fact i think it is heavily inspired by acomaf! the writing skill is not as good as SJM but it fills the void!
- Kingdom of Exiles by Maxim M. Martineau
- Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
- A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet
- Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet
- Lullaby by L.R.W Lee
