I think I liked this book! I'd rate it 3/5 stars.
I loved the message(s) it gave. As someone that used to be (for nearly her whole life) terrified of public speaking or even talking to family/friends, I related to Mallory. I'm so happy that she had a great support system for moments when she would be way out of her comfort zone (Rider, her parents, and a few other friends). They celebrate her triumphs, whether "big or small".
At one point, I thought this would be a "favorite" book of mine... But I felt like SOMETHING was missing. *wishes she had taken notes whilst reading this book*
Also, i'm a Spanish-speaker and I noticed that many of the phrases/words weren't used properly. *again, wishes she had marked the pages and taken notes* I just read JLA's "Acknowledgments" and someone helped her with the translating, but *shrugs* some words weren't edited correctly.
Overall, I liked it!! For fans of this book, I recommend:
-"Shatter Me" by Tahereh Mafi
-"Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson

I actually just finished the book today, and I thought that it was great! The character development kind of astounded me but I honestly loved watching Mouse grow up in this novel and develop as a person. I think that you're right Teeh, this is my first ever JLA novel and so I had no expectations going in, but I loved it.
Rider felt a little bit too "perfect" at times which is probably why I would rate this book 4 stars. Even though I could see his flaws and was surprised by that plot twist near the end of the book, I still enjoyed reading about the "rightness" of their relationship.
Overall, very pleased with this book, and now I'm going to go and get some more JLA for me by looking at her backlog and adding it to my TBR>
