Me? I'm an avid reader of all things historical. I rediscovered The Far Pavilions a couple of years ago (why it took me over 25 years to read it again.....) and always on the hunt for more.

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) | 12 comments I haven't read anything from this period but I know Misfit would never recommend a bad topic!

There will be a time, as there always is when you'll read a book I raved about and scratch your head wondering WTF was she thinking?

Lol, this group isn't picking up as quickly as the Mary Stewart one is it?

message 5: by Grace Tjan (new)

Grace Tjan Laura, thanks for inviting me to this group.

I first read The Far Pavillions when I was in college, and developed an interest in the British Raj and India because of it. I also like other historical fictions/ history books.

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) | 12 comments Misfit, this just suggestion (and it might be a dumb one at that) but the title of the Mary Stewart group made me think Mary was a character not a novelst. So maybe if the title was Madam, Want to Talk About the Author Mary Stewart, maybe there are some dummies like me out there.

Just something to chew on!

Susan, excellent suggestion I'll change it. I just wanted the play on words of one of her more famous novels, Madam Will You Talk?

Sandybanks, welcome.

Bibliophile Hi! Misfit invited me to join and I am delighted to do so! I'm actually half-Indian (that is, from India) so this is a subject very close to my heart (although I tend to read much more nonfiction about India than fiction, so I suspect most of my book recs will be nonfiction.)

Welcome Bibliophile! Do you have any recommendations you could give me of Indian poets/writers I could read that would give me a good reference to mainly historical India?

Hannahr, I'm moving this over into the "books set in India topic, because I think it fits there better!!

Hannah (hannahr) Oh, thank you so much for these, Bibliophile. They sound intriguing - I'm off to look up your recommendations and add to my TBR pile~~~

Virginie | 39 comments Hello everyone , I am very glad to be part of this interesting group , thanks for inviting me here Laura !!!I see there are friends already which is great !!!
I love reading books about India, my favorite being"the Rains came" by Louis Bromfield, a beautiful XXth century classic and also a very nice bio of Lady Edwina Mountbatten.
I was lucky to go to India very often in my former life as a flight attendant and to visit, it is an incredibly fascinating country.I was always happy to fly there.

Dottie (oxymoronid) Hello -- Misfit -- I've been looking at this group from the start and thinking I should join and telling myself I had already jumped into too many groups -- but finally I've done it -- so hi everyone -- some friends I see already -- that was part of the pull finally -- others I recognize from here and there and some few I will get to know perhaps. Anyway I'm exploring so topics may get awakened -- hopefully no rudeness involved -- heh.

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura welcome Dottie, glad you join us!!

Hi Dottie and welcome. Jump in whereever you like. It's been quiet around here except for our travel nattering.

Diane Lynn | 2 comments Hello everyone,
I was intrigued by the title of this group and had to join because TFP is one of my all time favorite books. I first read it back in the 80's, then reread four years ago. I loved it more the second time around.
It appears this group is not active, but that is okay, I already learned something here. The bookshelf gave me some ideas so thank you.
