E.G. Manetti (thornraven) Does anyone know how Amazon is using the button for indicating if a review was helpful? Does it impact how reviews are excerpted? Which ones show up first? Something else?

Martyn Halm (amsterdamassassinseries) | 16 comments They select the reviews who get the most 'helpful' likes on the first page, use them for excerpts, and select the most helpful review and the most helpful critical review (3-stars or lower).

Dominik Kirtaime (dmkirtaime) | 4 comments After launching my ebook last November, a 1 star rating was posted without download/purchase, about the price. I immedately reduced the price and even ran two free book promotions. But the one star is there and other authors notified Amazon requesting its removal. It is still there and killing potential sales - nothing I can do right? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QEGRYSU

That 'review' is not really a review at all. Clearly the person did not purchase or read the book. Hopefully readers will see that - but I've voted it as 'inappropriate'. Maybe if a few others complain they will take it off for you?
You need to get some balanced reviews up to change the rating.

Dominik Kirtaime (dmkirtaime) | 4 comments Hi Caroline, that you very much for that. I would like to think so because it is not a review from someone who purchased. I still took in the feedback and did reduce the price at the time.

Joey Ledford | 5 comments I have a 1star review which complained my book has only one chapter. It actually has 41. It's hard to win any appeal with Amazon -- they just ignore you.

Dominik Kirtaime (dmkirtaime) | 4 comments Hi Joey, well at present my book is within their KDP program and is only available via Kindle so unless things change there I would be forced to pull out and list on B&N or similar. I intend to prepare the softcover format soon so that will be an alternative and different reader group. Pity we cannot make comments on the review comments.

Joey Ledford | 5 comments You can comment on reviews. But I'd advise doing it very rarely or you really look whiny. And bad reviewers will argue endlessly with you.

Hey D.M, Joey, I feel for you, unfortunately, we can't stop the trolls :(
