Catherine Goldwyn I am just finishing An Instance of the Fingerpost and I am proposing that the ideas of Sir Francis Bacon and his Novum Organum Scientivium is the key to this book. Especially the ideas he had for his classes of "Idols" and his ideas called "Instances". Am I going in the correct direction when I say that essentially Bacon proposed that the ways in which we come to understand phenomena can be deeply flawed because of our nature, our assumptions, our use of words that are not clearly defined in context, and our societal pressure to accept belief systems without question? Anyone want to talk about this?

This book is deep and incredibly well written by a brilliant mind. I hope all will read it. It is not easy but well worth any effort.
