2017 Reading Challenge discussion

This story mixes science fiction and fantasy. Alif is computer hacker in an unnamed middle eastern country. He gets a hold of an ancient manuscript written by Djinn that basically unlocks the ultimate in computer coding. Interesting idea, but the story didn't really do anything for me. I really struggled with it and found the characters to be forgettable.
