Struggling to find a particular book to fill that tricky last spot in a challenge? One of our members is sure to have the answer. Ask for suggestions here.

I'm going to start this one off...

Can anybody suggest a book that "takes place DURING a party"? I thought I had it covered and read The Birthday Party thinking with that title I couldn't go wrong... turns out about 2 pages at the end actually featured the party. I don't think that's going to count!

Help please!

message 3: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Does the whole book have to be set during the party? Or can it be a crucial event that happens during the party?

Nicole wrote: "Does the whole book have to be set during the party? Or can it be a crucial event that happens during the party?"

I'm not sure, just says "takes place during a party". I suppose it's up to the player to interpret that how they want. So I guess a crucial event would count?

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments I'm not sure if this one qualifies: Capitol Danger (Armed and Deadly #1.5) by J.D. Tyler .
Since I'm re-arranging my ebooks I'll try to find the other one I have in mind - I think I have it somewhere.

message 6: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Not sure if you'll like it but there's this one;
The Divorce Party by Laura Dave
I just searched for the word party & it came up with a bunch of books. Maybe you can try that! :)

Lol. That's how I came up with The Birthday Party, a very deceiving title!

I'll take a look at The Divorce Party though. Thanks.

I would think it would be hard to find a book that took entirely place during a party. I think maybe at least some of the book takes place during a party.

It is a tricky one! I've asked the creator for clarification. (It's in another group in case anybody was wondering).

The only big party that I can think of is one from a Harry Dresden book. It started out with a big party the fae threw "for" Harry and it was dangerous and tricky and lasted a chapter or two. Then I can think of books where birthday parties were held. Or going away parties. But not an entire book about a party.... Good luck with it!

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 616 comments How about Fireworks A Sexmas Short Story by Kate Lowell or is it too short? And I don't know if you read erotica at all, especially since it looks like M/M erotica.
I was just checking the freebies at my online shop (Germany only) and found it there. If you like I can get it for you and send you the data file (genuine ePub).

Thanks Agnieszka. Length is probably ok, I don't think there's a page minimum, but not sure about the content. M/M erotica not really my thing! But thank you.

Hey I understand it completely. I was looking for a different book with a clock on the cover - that's why I looked at it at all - until I realised it's M/M erotica and knew I don't want to read it (plus the Christian group doesn't allow posting any erotica since some of the members feel offended by that kind of content so I coudn't use it anyway). So it looks like I have to use the one almost everyone will post - our July BOTM.

I got clarification on the "book set during a party" thing and it CAN be just a crucial event happens during a party so that should be easier - I've got plenty of murder mysteries where somebody gets bumped off at a party!

So - the next thing I need help with is "a one word title that starts with X". I'm doing an A-Z and I've got books lined up for every letter but that one. Any suggestions?

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (phonebooklady) I did that once...I read Xena it was not good!! That was in the beginning, I thought I had to finish ever challenge...lol. I don't know if I thought the challenge police were going to get me or what. Now I've leaned to skip those that I have to buy a book for.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not worried about the challenge police - it's my own obsessive behaviour I worry about! Must finish what I started...

Having said that, if I haven't got a book, and I can't get it from the library or free for kindle, then I won't buy it just for a challenge. I'd just have to leave the challenge unfinished. I'm sure I could do it. It hasn't happened yet but I'm sure I could...

Funny you should say that - I'm pretty sure my husband has bought me the paperback for my birthday in two weeks. (At least that's what it looked like tucked away in the wardrobe!!) So looks like I'm sorted for X. Thanks for the suggestions :)

message 21: by Creative Caprice (new)

Creative Caprice | 103 comments I looked but didn't see the answer to this: If a challenge doesn't list a minimum page limit, can I assume that there is none? Speaking generally, but right now especially the Reading the Seasons Challenge as I have a bunch of books that will fit but quite a few are novellas in the 90=150pgs range. Thanks :)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Generally if it doesn't specify a page limit I'd say it's safe to assume that there is no minimum. On Reading the Seasons, I actually thought I'd said 'no page minimum' but I obviously didn't! Thanks for pointing it out - I'll go and change it :)

Hey everyone, I just signed up for the August Clean it Out challenge and I'm a bit confused with the Kindle Unlimited task. I don't own a kindle or have an Account with them. What should I do?

It says -5. Read one free book from your e-reader. (If you do not have an e-reader, read a book that has been on your TBR for more than a year)

You copied Sam's message. She must have an account.

BUT if you have a computer/laptop, you can download the kindle app from amazon and get free books. I read on my laptop that way. It's real easy to do!!

I was trying to say much the same thing as JoAnne this morning but GR wouldn't let me post any comments for some reason. On anything! Was it just me or did anyone else have an issue earlier today?

Thank you! I didn't know you could get the kindle app without the kindle reader. I'm apparently behind the times ^.^

No, you're not behind the times. I was resisting buying a kindle and found the app a couple of years ago. I bought a kindle fire and haven't used it. Partly because it got put out of my way and I couldn't get to it. I broke my ankle and I realized I can't do anything! LOL

It's acting up (GR). Everything shows as new in the discussion boards. I wonder if they are going to change something. Facebook always acted up when the idiots were changing stuff. I hardly go on there anymore.
Frank saw the eye doctor this morning so we were away for a few hours. I was hoping everything was back to normal - but no!!

Apparently there was a site wide outage earlier which has caused a lot of glitches. They've been talking about it in the GR feedback group - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Glad to know it wasn't just me!

In the morning I wasn't able to post anything or edit my posts. Since it's not the first time I made a copy of my post in word and try again in the afternoon. It's not perfect but at least better now.

For the scavenger hunt, are we allowed to use pools for pool and breaking for break and so on and so forth????

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Teri-lynn wrote: "For the scavenger hunt, are we allowed to use pools for pool and breaking for break and so on and so forth????"

Pool/Pools - yes, plurals are always fine.

Break/Breaking - It's probably better to check other forms of words individually for each hunt because sometimes the answer would be yes but in this case I would have to say no to breaking because the word 'break' in this months scavenger hunt refers to a vacation/holiday break ("what are you doing for spring break?") rather than something being broken ("don't break my heart")

Does that make sense?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Absolutely...thank you!!!

I don't think that's allowed.

I'm thinking Caroline should be back soon from vacation, if you want to ask her.

I'm so sorry about your uncle passing away.

To receive badges in this group, you must repost your challenge when you've finished in order to get credit. I checked through September's postings and there was not a reposting.

Would you say the man is on bedsheets?

Yes or no??
