Even though we are told to NOT judge a book by its cover, that's what we are going to try this month! Read a book that you pick solely because of the cover! Why did it appeal to you? Was it what you expected? Something totally different? Did you love it? Tell us!!

Toni | 5 comments As a matter of fact - I just now finished a book that I put off reading b/c of its cover. It was At The Waters Edge by Sara Gruen. It was a good book but the close up cover, side view of a woman's face did nothing for me in the way of picking the book. For some reason I find that covers including people, that might or might not impact the story, gives a foreboding of what the book is about and then you almost have the picture in mind while reading the book. I much prefer a book with a non-committal cover.

Mallory I chose The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants mainly because I'd always been curious about the book, but also because I wondered why a book with such a boring cover (a pair of jeans!!) had stayed popular for so long. It was a surprisingly good summertime, coming-of-age story and I found myself alternately laughing and crying along with the four friends and their adventures. I know newer editions have an updated jacket, but this cover was the original and that's what strikes me: that a book can surpass expectations each time - you just have to look inside.
