Which series do you prefer to read?

When I finish with the Voyager books I plan to read other Trek, too. The plan is to read TNG from after the movies, DS9 relaunch and Titan (since that series have Riker and Troi in it, plus Tuvok from Voyager). It will take me a few years to read all of this, but that's just fine with me. :)

When I ..."
Titan because Tuvok a Voyager character is in it? or because you like Riker and Troi?

Both. But I guess mostly because I like Riker and Troi. That was how it started out. I heard about Titan being a series involving Riker being the captain and that he and Troi were on that ship together. So then I decided to read those books at some point. Then I heard about Tuvok being on the ship as well, and saw that as a good thing that would be interesting to read about.

I tend to prefer books that explain lore from the series, continue past the series finale, or do something that would have been difficult or impossible to portray onscreen.
Based on those, I choose Voyager and Titan books the most, but I also love the TNG novels.

Assuming you were being serious...How about going through your shelves and thinking about what you liked best about each book or series? No need to continue the series or follow the authors who don't leave a mark.
Or get a library card. Or buy used books.

I buy used books, Star Trek and others. Bookmans is 1.5 hours away, but I go in there a few times a year and spend $100 at an average of $1.50 a book. Our town no longer has any bookstores, which is another problem. Other times, I buy them through the Amazon third parties.

I used to do that, a long time ago, when there weren't so many. Then it got out of hand - where do you put them all?

I read a lot of ebooks, but the Star Trek ones I still buy in print/paper. I resent spending the same amount on an ebook without anything in hand. The cloud might just disappear. My kindle is less than 6 months old and has a glitch which means i have to send it back to get a replacement and then reload everything again. My physical books could catch on fire, get flooded, or other catastrophes but I feel safer with them. My age is showing probably.
Worse, my favorite authors, like Lois McMaster Bujold, or series like Dune and Alan Dean Foster's Pip and Flinx, I still buy hardcovers.

And for some reason I prefer paperbacks.

My daughter is 32 and prefers printed books too. She buys a lot of hardcovers. I suspect liking printed books is not as much an age thing; my fear of trusting the cloud probably is.

I begin to read with Dayton Ward novel : Elusive salvation. I do not finish yet, but it is very interesting for a first book.

I liked that one too. I think the author does a good job. If you like the author's treatment of the characters and Star Trek world, I suggest

I have 10 boxes of Star Trek books in my storage room. I had to make room on my 20 shelves (3 feet each), I did keep out the Eugenics Wars because I want to read it a 3rd time.
Considering my daughter has claimed some of my science fiction as her own and absconded with it, that I donated my Star Wars, Quantum Leap, and other TV series books in July, I am at the point of double stacking the shelves again. Another 450 books on my kindle. 98% is sci fi. Some of these books, including Star Trek series, I have owned since I was 17 (40 years ago), and they have moved from NJ to TX to NM to AZ to WI and back to AZ.
Your need to prioritize - eventually the budget forces one into it. I used to own a collection of legal thrillers, Patterson, Grisham, Kellerman, and so on. I donated them to a library when moved in 2006 and switched to just reading them from the library.
Your need to own books, I totally approve of because it helps justify my own!

I actually prefer TNG as a tv series, I like VOY, and am coming to terms with DS9. ;)
The latest movie, Star Trek Beyond, felt like one of the TOS novels to me. It rekindled my love of Star Trek so I finished the last of the unread Star Trek novels on my shelves in the last couple of days.

That's interesting. I usually find that the TNG fans are not much interested in Voyager. I always preferred Voyager over TNG.
The different types of fans when going to Star Trek conventions back when TNG and Voyager were both on the air was interesting. They were definitely separate camps.

I would do a poll as I think it would be interesting to see the results, but I don't know how to set that up. (I know I could learn, but my computer usage is limited by my disability.) If anyone wants to comment, I am interested in if you pick a series because of which TV show you preferred or because of quality of writers being better in one over another, or because of preferring a specific character. I have friends who mock STOS but love STNG.
