The Lost Challenges discussion

My husband and I were watching the film Kiss the Girls last night. I enjoy the film (not as much as the book), and I like Morgan Freeman as an actor but for me, he was the wrong choice for this role. In my head Alex Cross has always been played by Denzel Washington.

So I thought I'd ask - If a movie were being made of your favourite book (or any book you've read) and you had control over the casting - who would you pick?

And, if a movie has already been made, did you agree with the casting? Did it match up to who you pictured as you were reading?

Someone a bit taller maybe... ;)

I recently read The Bone Collector, which I'd seen the film of years ago. In my head (because of the film) Lincoln Rhyme was Denzel Washington, so I got quite a surprise when several chapters in to the book the character was described as having ivory skin and blue eyes! (Actually it might have been green eyes...)

I didn't actually remember this (it's been years since I saw the film) but my husband tells me that Rhyme's male nurse Thom from the book became Thelma and was played by Queen Latifah!

Can anyone think of any other book/film adaptations where a character changed gender?

Huh... I can think about The Vampire Diaries. They messed up with all the characters and the plot, that's true. But still in the novels the main character Elena Gilbert has a four years old sister Margaret while in the show she get a teenage brother Jeremy.
Also, I don't know if it fits, the tv show "Revenge" core theme is based on "The Count of Monte Cristo", but the chose to have a female main character.
Other gender swap is in Elementary, based on Sherlock Holmes novels where Watson is a woman.

The worst cast was Grey in 50 shades of Grey...I would have definitely chosen Christian Bale...cause well thay was who was playing Grey in my head...

I just started Personal Demon by Kelley Armstrong and Hope is talking about Karl Marsten. I am picturing the actor from Bitten, BUT is that how Karl really looks? It's been too long since I read Bitten to remember how Kelley described him.

The TV show was SO different from the book!!! The whole cast did not really fit the characters from the books.
I LOVE Greg Bryk but he's not Jeremy. The woman cast as Paige is not how I pictured her either.
