Bun or Roll?

Cinnamon rolls don't look like a cigar when you eat 'em. But when the baker makes them, he/she rolls out a big cigar shape and then slices 'em up for us. They start out life as rolls.
A bun is more of a blobby shape because ... oh, I don't know ... because it isn't a roll?
I put hot dogs AND burgers in buns. I might eat a cinnamon roll for breakfast, unless I'm feeling English or something, in which case I might call it a bun.
I make rolls out of plain bread dough to eat with dinner, but I don't make those by rolling anything. I learned from my mother to get a big blob of dough in my hand and squeeze out the right sized blog between thumb and forefinger.

Blog or blob? Either way it sounds rather erotic.

Oops. Blob. It's not really a very erotic process. More ooky, but kind of satisfying...

Still sounds erotic to me...
When I was growing up in central Pennsylvania, we called them both rolls, because the word bun implied a sweet treat, like a cinnamon bun. But then that crazy Poppin' Fresh dude calls them cinnamon rolls.
ARGH!
Is it a regional thing? Should I care?
