Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) this is for Holly and James :)

James (birchoverjames) 19% complete. Richmond has been taken and the Confederate Government retreated first to Danville and now to Greensborough, North carolina.
Lincoln is basking in glory and decides to visit the theatre.

James (birchoverjames) 33& in and finding the immense detail provided to be a little hard to take. Nearly 20 pages covering the 8 hours between Lincoln being shot and his final passing away. Similarly the great detail of the preparations for his funeral and final journey, great for historians but a grind for a casual reader.

James (birchoverjames) 39% complete. Lincoln's funeral service has been held and the body rested in Washington before its long journey back to Springfield.
Meanwhile jeff Davis and his Cabinet still believe they can continue the fight despite their generals surrendering their armies. First Lee and now Longstreet.

James (birchoverjames) Reached the half way point. Lincoln's long journey home has now reached Chicage having toured the east coast states. Every town has tried to out do the others in the way they are paying their respects.
Davis is running out of time. He is beginning to realise he no longer has an army to command and must begin to think of escape.and

James (birchoverjames) Finally finished this book. I have to admit to being disappointed, it as not what I had hoped for. The detailed descriptions of the lingering death of Lincoln and then his procession to his final resting place was too repetitive. The best bits when the author drew comparisons between the two presidents.

Holly | 100 comments Good opinions, James. Couldn't really get into it myself. The other book that I read by him was really good.
