Hey guys
just wondering , what are some "first world" problems you guys face when reading?

for instance I hate when:
My latest book does not fit in my handbag. It almost seems necessary to buy a bigger bag.

Drives me up the wall. I take good care of my books.

I agree with Cosmos. I also hate it when the pages are folded, ripped or torn. I can't bear to see them ill treated.

I hate it when I lend a book to someone and it comes back dog-eared and scribbled in. Use a bookmark or buy your own books, I say!

I learned the hard way not to lend my books out...except to family. I love my collection of books at home and want them in pristine condition.

I NEVER write in my books.

For English last year our teacher made us write in our copies of the books we were studying. I hated it. Until I figured out I could write in pencil so I could rub it out afterwards. It made me cringe watching everyone else use highlighters and biros in brand new copies that ended up dog eared and ruined after being dumped in bags for 6 months.

I also hated when books rip and such but I also hate when you go to the store and they have all the books on the series you are interested in reading except the first one. That happened recently.

Yes, this happens all the time- particularly at the library. At the moment my biggest problem is severe lack of shelf space so I can't get anymore books (I'm currently stacking in my wardrobe!)

And because I also hate dog eared and folded pages, highlights or pencil marks, I have learned to love book darts.

when my Kindle dies when I'm at 98% of a fantastic book!

I hate when I buy a new book online and it still has some oily brown spots on its pages..

Okay, to be honest, I used to dog-ear my pages in my books before people started shaming me for it.....But, I really hate it when the book store or library has every other book in the series except for the first one. And also when my tablet dies of battery when I'm at the climax of a book. :)

I hate when:

I see people dog ear their books, or even write in them. My dad writes in his books, even do ear them.

Also I hate it when my mom tells me to put away my book when I'm at the best part of the book.

Luckily, my cats never go near my books. Good kitties.:)

I also hate it when I'm interrupted while reading.

I have too many unread books in my bookshelf. It's a wonderful thing but sometimes it's really hard to choose which one I will be reading next :(

I hate when I lend a book to a friend and when they give it back its cover or pages aren't as clean or in as good as a condition as when I gave it to them.

People who disrespect books would be annoying if I had friends who even read books. Honestly my main proble is not having any friends who read..

Although I have this one co-worker who borrowed a book from me like years ago and I still haven't got it back, and he left town. I totally hold a grudge!!

I don't mind if books get old, weird spots, or covers torn (I have lots of old favs with taped / reconstructed covers). As long as it's readable and still holding up, then I'll get another copy. But I hate dog ears and highlights in pages. Some books I don't mind if it's written in, as I find the last owner's notes interesting. other times it gets annoying if notes are everywhere. (I personally note in mine, as it's my book and I don't lend books).

My main problem is when my husband asks me to leave my book in the cellar or to sell them because there is no more place left in the apartment...

I totally relate! When we moved to a place that was half the size, my husband and I had a cosplay props/costumes vs beloved books struggle. He wound up winning (and getting a storage unit to boot). Most of my books had to go, save one large underbed box full. It's been like 10 years and I STILL haven't gotten over it.

Not enough room for books. Your eyesight gets worse because of too much reading (close work - My optician told me this!). Finding a hard to find book at an affordable price but this, or others you buy online may not be in the condition described (I wouldn't describe a bit tatty as very good, but it's not against Amazon's description).

Kindle overflow. I have folders on my computer to save books that don't fit on the Kindle.

D20: you can run out of space on a Kindle? I have over 300 books on mine and I haven't run out of space.

You sure can, although online estimates put the capacity at around 3500 books (depending on the file sizes, of course; picture-heavy books take more space).

But can't you delete them off the Kindle device itself and still have them in the cloud? ::wringing hands in panic::

Yep, if they're Amazon books. If they're sideloaded, then you can't (unless you mail it to your Kindle e-mail address or something?).

Oh good, that's what I thought. I suppose you can also keep your side-loaded books on your own cloud storage, emailing them to the kindle as the mood strikes.

I hate it when my eyes are too tired to read anymore, but my brain craves more.

This might be just a me problem but I hate when paperback books (especially mine) are not 100% smooth. If I see even a teeny bend in the corners of the front and back covers, I will get super annoyed. At the bookstore, I have to go though all the books until I find the one that's the smoothest. People tell me that bending books show your love for them, but I just can't do it!

I have that moment when I first open a pristine book and feel a flash of guilt that I've sullied it, lol. Same if I accidentally bend, smudge, or dribble coffee (gak) on my book.

I will look for the nicest copy in a bookstore, but have also been known to grab used books in sad condition. When I want to read it bad enough, nothing stands in the way.

Yes, or when your foot falls asleep because you've been sitting there so long.

Not having enough space for all my books

So many used books stores so little time, my husband hates it when I go into used book stores, lol. I want to plan a trip around them sometime. Smelling the pages of the books in the store when you are looking at them. I keep falling jerking awake because it is late and I need to go to bed but I need to keep reading. I call it sleep reading, lol.

My pet peeve is when I want to read the next book in the series but the author hasn't written it yet. Then the series gets turned into a TV show and eventually the show overtakes the books. You'd rather find out the real story through the books, but you have to keep watching the tv show, otherwise the internet will ruin every major plot twist (also because it's pretty awesome tv). In the meantime you keep hoping that the author is writing the book, but then he keeps releasing all these OTHER BOOKS (really buddy who freaking cares!!). Also when you realise that it's now dark outside and you should have stopped reading 2 hours ago.

PLus when a page accidentally rips or bends.... ugh.

I don't like it when someone asks you what your favourite book is and expects you to pick just one. I mean have you seen my list. I kind of enjoying anything right now. also dislike it when the movie version of a book gets everything wrong.

I have another one. I guess people have different opinions but when a book you love gets a harsh review and is very underrated.

This isn't my common pet peeve but I would guess a lot of bookworms would feel the same. When someone spoils the ending of a book. (You monsters). Or worse, the ending of an entire series. (Basically, we think you're a horrible human being and bad things should happen to you).

The thing that tops the lot is when someone says you read too much. I mean, excuse me. There is no such thing as too much books.

I solved that problem by either having books on Kindle app or download books to my Smartphone.
