Feel free to share any thoughts or questions on the book, its different translations or about the meetup.

If I have time, I'll take a look at available translations into English and, if I have more time, into French, and will post my observations here as the language of this book is quite particular: loads of Gulag jargon which is quite a challenge to translate.

Translations into English

There are several English translations but only one of them was authorised by the author, who spoke English.

Wikipedia: "La première traduction en français est due à Léon et Andrée Robel et Maurice Decaillot, accompagnée par une préface de Pierre Daix, elle comporte également des passages censurés. La seconde édition (complète), dans une traduction de Jean Cathala et de sa femme Lucia, sort à Paris en 1973."

Существует аудиокнига, начитанная самим автором. Именно её я слушала несколько месяцев назад и переслушиваю сейчас и могу потвердить, что произношение рассказчика только добавляет колорита.

Более того, эта книга на русском языке тоже доступна в библиотеках Парижа.
