Saturday, October 1 - Do you read "scary" books for October?

message 2: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Yes. I've got one lined up called Ghost. I don't remember the author right now but its nonfiction about the supernatural. I also like to read some Edgar Alan Poe around this time of year.

message 3: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissasd) | 948 comments I try to. I'm starting Neverland by Douglas Clegg soon.

Neverland by Douglas Clegg

I've just been informed that the audio for Dracula has finally arrived at the library. So as soon as I finish my current audio, that one is next!

However ... in general, I make no effort to read "scary" books in October.

Ooooo, that's a good one for October -- and a good one in general!

This is so sad! I honestly cannot think of anything I have bought myself lately that wasn't a necessity.

message 9: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 242 comments Clothes and a cute hat! I get them at a great price online. I also got me a little craft tote on wheels for my appointments.

Books! I actually had a friend I met on Goodreads 5 years ago visit me all the way from Poland last week. Since we met over a love of books, it's no surprise we spent a good chunk of time going to used bookstores acquiring more books. Between the two of us we got over 50 books. Our significant others weren't as thrilled, especially since she was now hauling 20+ books back to Poland - her poor boyfriend lol.

October 10 (Monday): Did you have a good weekend?

message 14: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 242 comments That's always a good question! Yes, my husband is creating a laundry room from a spare bathroom upstairs and made good progress. I hosted a fun discussion with our group, there were thirteen of us altogether. And I raked the leaves for a little while - a cheaper and more rewarding workout than going to the gym.

Pretty good ... My neighbor celebrated her 60th B-day and it was a very nice party ... interesting people, stimulating conversation, great food!

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Leah wrote: "October 10 (Monday): Did you have a good weekend?"

Yes. We went to an 80th birthday party for my brother-in-law. We live 3 hours away from my husband's relatives so it is always good to see them.

ilikeboox | 242 comments Chocolate cake. Except for cheap vanilla birthday cake with lots of frosting. That's my absolute favorite food in the whole world.

Of course. I certainly don't think I'm the same person I was 20 years ago. I wish I could go back to those days knowing what I know now.

We usually have fruit for dessert ... but yesterday (Oct 13) was our anniversary and we went out for dinner. The Flourless Chocolate Cake just had my name on it - YUM!

Definitely a dog person!

message 37: by ilikeboox (new)

ilikeboox | 242 comments I like both but only cats make good pets. Dogs need to be outside - free to run.

Book Concierge wrote: "Tuesday, Oct 17 - Are you a 'dog' person or a 'cat' person (or neither)?"

Both! Growing up I only had dogs (and hamsters) as my mom was super allergic to cats. Then once my husband and I moved in together, into an apartment, we got (and still have) two cats. I am a certified veterinarian assistant and owned my own animal care business. I've worked at training facilities, vets, boarding, rescues, etc. I love all animals!

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Book Concierge wrote: "Tuesday, Oct 17 - Are you a 'dog' person or a 'cat' person (or neither)?"

Both, but if I had to choose I would go with cats only because they are less work.

My husband does more of the decorating. We decorate some but we don't get trick or treaters so we don't go all out.

Vickie (iyamvixen) | 1166 comments Book Concierge wrote: "Saturday, Oct 15 - Do you decorate your house for Halloween?"
YES! It's my favorite holiday for decorating. I plan on trying my hand at a wreath I saw, with bones and black ribbon and black taffeta. We will see what turns out. Weirdly, I have fewer containers of Halloween decorations than Christmas, but Halloween is still my favorite. It's my daughter's favorite too. She keeps searching for new 'tombstones' and figures to add to the Halloween village.

Everywhere! Library and used book stores are my main stops. But if I find a book I really want on a good deal for my Kindle, I'll go for it.

Skeetor | 159 comments Leah wrote: "October 19 (Wednesday): In what way do you procure most of your books? Online, used book store, library, etc"

I would say most books I get from either the library or the used book store. Hard to find books I may buy on my Kindle or with bookstore coupons.

However, my sister will sends me a lots of books she finds that she thinks I would enjoy. :) I even gave her a shelf in my goodreads listing.

I buy books from my local independent bookseller. But virtually all the books I read I get from the library.

It's a song from the musical On a Clear Day ... Hurry! It's Lovely Up Here

It's an upbeat tune and I just love the lyrics. Always lifts my spirits. (And thanks for the reminder ... because now I'm singing it in my head and smiling....)
