SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. Children's Coming of Age (I think?) Chapter Book about girl with a dog (think it was a golden retriever?) who visits a woman who gives her candy (the candy also had a specific name)

I read a book (chapter book) a long time ago around 4th or 5th grade (not quite sure) (2007-2008?? but I'm pretty sure it hadn't just come out then) about a girl who had a dog that was always with her. The girl would always ride her bike to visit a woman who would give her these delicious candies. And they would sit and talk. I think the young girl also ends up meeting a boy, but the book is not romance. It's more coming of age type. I know the book also has a movie made from it.

I know this is a stretch because I don't remember much but I would love if anyone knew the title! Thanks!
